Rozanna is challenging Damaris for the welterweight title, on the back of an excellent mini tournament victory, during which the 30 year old avenged her only BBU defeat against Vogue Williams, by knocking her out.
Damaris is sharing her time between BBU and FCBA, but she’s confident of retaining her title tonight
Round 1
Off go the girls, with Rozanna starting in a defensive position, as Damaris prances around, slipping out a couple of loose looks. Damaris comes in close expecting to take Rozanna inside, but she eats three, four big punches from the unusually aggressive Rozanna, who seems to want to take the champion down early tonight, really wanting to knock her over and send out a message. Damaris gets hit repeatedly as she retreats to the ropes, takes a bit of a pasting around her body, but comes back well, and she’s outboxing Rozanna for a few seconds until the Irish babe stuns her with a straight right hand to the mouth, and she’s happy to stay in there to the bell clinching to avoid any more punishment, but it’s Rozanna’s round.
Round 2
Here we go again, and lovely Rozanna just keeps the big punches coming, slamming hooks and crosses hard into Damaris’s waiting face, which is already marking up. But, striking back, in comes a great left hook from the champion, and Rozanna’s staggering backwards, taking a some hefty punches now, Damaris loosening the challenger up with a couple of really sharp left hooks, that pretty face taking punishment. She needs to gather her senses, and she holds onto the American, wrapping her up, getting herself together, and now she starts to box the girl, and she’s once again able to find her range, landing a neat combination to Damaris’s face as the champion comes in tight, and then she gives her a few to the ribcage as a follow up. At the bell, it’s a round for Damaris, but that’s close and well contested round.
Round 3
Right from the bell, Damaris comes out blazing, and she won’t let Rozanna settle, won’t let her get into her rhythm this time. Damaris trusts her big punches, and she finds Rozanna covering, unable to counter but she’s defending well, obviously prepared for that assault, then she fights back, comes off the ropes, and there’s a crazy two-way trade in the middle of the ring, with both girls landing heavy shots to the other’s face, then Damaris hurts Rozanna to the body with two left hooks, takes the Irish babe to the ropes, and for the first time in this fight Damaris opens up properly, and beats up on Rozanna, really giving her ribcage some leather, trying to soften her up, but Rozanna really is looking a worthy challenger tonight, and, although Damaris took the round, Rozanna weathered the storm well.
Round 4
Once again it’s a good start for Damaris, and she finds Rozanna a few times straight away, slams the Irish babe backwards, then catches her hard with a left uppercut as the challenger comes back at her, forcing her back to the ropes. Damaris loves to bully, and she’s bullying Rozanna right now, the taller girl backed up and taking her punishment, face bruising up, nose dribbling a little blood. But Damaris is sometimes too sure of herself, and with a smug look on her face she relaxes, showboats, and her chin gets found out by Damaris’s right hook, and Rozanna’s hurt Damaris now, presses her backwards to a neutral corner, and hammers her face, blood seeping from her nose as well now, and the champ’s wobbly, may even hit the canvas here – but she holds on and sees out the round, which ends up in Rozanna’s favour.
Round 5
After that late battering, Damaris looks too static, and she can’t afford this with a talented boxer like Rozanna, who’s watching, moving, and jabbing the champion’s face, waiting for her moment. In fairness, Rozanna teaching Damaris a lesson right here, and she picks her off with more jabs, clips her with a nice hook, then switches back to the model’s body, wearing her down, weakening her, and taking the will out of her. Finally the build up pays and Damaris is getting hit harder and harder – there’s not much time left in this round, but she can’t stay on her feet anymore and she goes down! Hard to see what did the job, but possibly the right hook – Damaris’s up at 6, but she can’t fight back, gets tagged again by the Irish babe, and Rozanna takes a big round here.
Round 6
This time it’s Rozanna who makes the faster start to the round, capitalizing on her superiority, and she’s working Damaris around the ring again, giving her a lot of defensive work to do as she tucks into that lovely body. But after getting hit and hurt in the first minute, Damaris answers back, and she fights back, answering Rozanna’s punches with her own, and she staggers the challenger with a right hook, and another, Rozanna glad to hold, waiting for the referee. The girls are prised apart, and when they resume, it’s all Rozanna again, ripping hooks into Damaris’s body, then punching her face, with sharp, measured punches, punches that are gradually closing the lovely American’s eyes, and that’s another round for Rozanna, and she looks the more likely winner at this stage, probably ahead 58 – 55 after 6 rounds.
Round 7
Damaris is quick off her stool as she looks to get back into this fight, and she’s prepared to take a punch to land her own, attacking Rozanna with gusto, giving the challenger a few more choice right hands, landing them on a very swollen left jaw. Damaris is looking more dangerous with her strong punches, but she’s beginning to run out of steam inside the first minute, and now it’s Rozanna’s turn to attack, and she’s concentrating on Damaris’s body once more, and hurting her, too, but she’s not getting the champion to drop her gloves, Both girls are slowing down now, and they trade as best they can, with Rozanna again backed up, unable to turn the champion, who lays into her, tries out her left uppercut on the Irish babe, and that’s really taken the steam out of her, Rozanna looking a little floppy, Damaris hauling this fight around, and she’s punishing Rozanna, who looks just about done, her corner pleading with her to stay tight, but at the bell her face is smothered in blood from a horrid gash over her left eye
Round 8
Both girls are tired and Rozanna’s eye is certainly telling the tale of leather damage, and Damaris now tries to go for the finish! Hard punches find their way through Rozanna’s defense, sending her down to the canvas, the former beauty queen on her knees, and struggling up at 7. Damaris still looks strong, and Rozanna gets hit hard again in the subsequent exchanges, trapped at the ropes and battered, but refusing to go down again. Damaris is now simply controlling and punishing Rozanna, moves in closer to land that telling blow, slams a three punch combo into the actress’s face, then she sends Rozanna down for good with the big right hook!
Damaris Lewis knocked Rozanna Purcell out in round 8.
So Damaris is still the champion, but Rozanna pushed her hard, and, at ringside Leah Francis is really fancying her chances of taking the belt from the American
