Ivona Dadic, AUT vs Ivana Vuleta (nee Spanovic), SRB
(Heptathlon vs Long Jump)
Results: BBU; Story: Vassago
BEFORE: We are backstage during the Athletics European Championships in Munich, Germany where two competitors have set up a not-so-friendly boxing fight for additional exposure. Both these women have seen different fortunes during their primary events since Ivana Spanovic won the long jump gold medal while Ivona Dadic was controversially disqualified from the heptathlon after stepping over the lane during the 200m dash at the end of day one. The blonde Austrian is the one who hopes to let all the anger out and vows to get a win in the boxing ring while Spanovic is happy to flex her muscles and claims she is a much better boxer than Dadic to begin with.
Ivona Dadic wears a red bikini set & black gloves. Long blonde hair tied in a custom ponytail. Ivana Spanovic wears a light blue bikini set & silver gloves. Long dark brown hair tied in a thick bun at the back of her head. The fight is scheduled for ten rounds in the welterweight division.
Ivona rumbles into a high-octane jabbing start and tries to knock the brunette's head off but Ivana shows some quick footwork to escape the pressure and slips by the initial slugging before landing a hard power punch straight into the blonde's face. She shakes Dadic off her lane for a moment but the lanky heptathlete quickly resumes the slugging pounce and smacks leather back into Spanovic's face to trigger a crowd-pleasing exchange in the center of the ring. One might argue the crowd itself includes fellow athletes here but it's all about showcasing that boxing talent and Dadic follows through with enough hard licks to make the older woman think better off it. Spanovic doesn't look hurt but she prefers to hang around in mid-distance as the blonde Austrian settles to take the opener on points.
More aggressive punches from Ivona who is still determined to inflict some damage on the brunette's face but she bounces off a stubborn high guard and Spanovic cashes in with a proper gut-checking series thereafter. She moves into close range and tries her luck drilling the blonde's abs which isn't a common tactics between two fellow pro athletes. However she catches a lucky break digging an elbow into Dadic's breasts and smacks her with a left hook on the chin that opens the flood gates somewhat against the odds. Ivona gets stuck on her heels and has to embrace a speedy jabbing rush from the long jump champion who pummels her onto the ropes where she racks up more body hits to sink Dadic into a clinching resistance for lack of better options come the final seconds. Some hard shots follow into the blonde's stomach and we're even at 19 after two.
It's not like these two are trying to extend this fight on purpose... more heavy swinging early in the third and Ivona gets caught on the left brow ridge that wobbles her to the side and allows Ivana to crank up the phone booth volume. She drills the blonde's breasts and backs her onto the ropes where Dadic gets all aggressive swinging from behind the guard but she only bounces off the top of the brunette's head and eats another crippling hook on the jaw half-way through the round. She slumps behind a high earmuff while Spanovic duly pounds away at her midriff before a late scything reply finally brings the Austrian woman back into contention. Both hellcats exchange more furious blows that earns them a solid ovation from the partisan crowd but the long jump champion has probably nicked this round on points.
Ivona fires a left hook on target and proceeds to mash around the Serbian's face before a looping overhand catches her on the nose outright and triggers a chaotic response from the long jump champion. Dadic stands her ground and keeps swinging upstairs to drop Spanovic into coverage once a couple of those punches barely miss the brunette's temples. Tempo slows down in the second minute with both women circling each other but Ivona blinks first soon afterwards and tries to knock more leather into Ivana's face. She fails in her pursuit but the more aggressive approach probably wins her the judges approval with Katrina Johnson-Thompson working the social media cards due to skipping the Munich event. She might trigger some Dadic favoritism here but Spanovic claims "I can still knock her out and come over to beat KJT too!"
Ivana puts some beef into her jabbing approach and finds more success crashing into the blonde's breadbasket thereafter. Meanwhile Ivona still wants to knock the brunette's head off but she gets battered into a standstill when Spanovic loops a vicious harpoon around the liver area before she cracks an uppercut double on the chest to cripple the Austrian heptathlete into spasms. Ugh! Ivona tries to swing over the top but only finds thin air while Spanovic bangs another right hand on the solar plexus to DROP DADIC ONTO HER BACKSIDE in the center of the ring! A bit of a wild punch but it still got the job done even though the blonde shakes off the experience and gets up at six. Ivana doesn't waste any time and rips immediate slugging follow up as the Austrian tries to find her comfort only to suffer more Serbian menace in the process. Spanovic thumps the younger foe back to the neutral corner and drills more of the exposed midriff to slump Dadic into even louder spasms at the bell.
Ivona is forced to find a quick response following that knockdown but the long jump champion is all over her in no time and lands more hard shots into the chest before a looping hook on the ear freezes Dadic in the center of the ring again. Spanovic lines one up and NAILS the stranded blonde on the jaw to DROP HER DOWN FOR THE COUNT again! Uh-oh! Ivona lands flat on her back and this time looks badly shaken up by the experience. She buries her face in the gloves and stays down to concede the damage is too large to overcome anymore. NINE.. TEN.. she is out!!! KO6 Ivana Spanovic!!!
AFTER: The European long jump champion blows a kiss to the crowd and reiterates the fact she had to knock Dadic out once she found out Johnson-Thompson is actually scoring the fight on virtual cards: "I just don't trust that being a coincidence. These heptathlon girls are too shrewd not to run their own system. But I beat the system so I hope to get that bonus payout from World Athletics! The season is almost over but I can always take KJT for a spin if she has the guts? I bet she will claim another injury excuse though" (winks).
Official Result: Ivana Spanovic def. Ivona Dadic KO6.
