Intro:
A rematch five years in the making with big stakes on the line. The BBU welterweight title is up for grabs. With challenger Mathilde Gohler hoping to get revenge with some gold after she lost to champion Josephine Skriver five years ago. That night ended with Josephine stopping Mathilde in six rounds, will history repeat itself or will revenge be gained?
The day before the fight saw a press conference. The stage was set up with press being held back by a metal railing. Two tables were on the stage with pictures of each of the champions on the right side, challengers photos on the left side.
That is the sides that Mathilde and Josephine step onto the stage. The challenger wearing a navy blue dress, champion in a white dress with the world title on her right shoulder. Going nose to nose with scowls on their faces. Clearly years apart haven't mellowed their feelings for each other. With a few curse words in their native tongue being exchanged in whispered tones.
Breaking apart at the urging of a BBU committee member, the fighters head to their tables with their coaches sitting beside them so that they are between them. Still they give a frosty look to their opponent before getting totally comfortable in their seats.
The Challenger is asked to speak first. She takes a quick sip of water as if to make Josephine wait a little longer to get her turn, then states to the crowd "this has been too long in coming, that means the title shot and getting to kick the ass of that bytch sitting over there." Pointing at her rival to make it absolutely clear who she was talking about.
Josephine rolls her eyes before she butts in. Firing back "oh how original Mathilde. You always thought you were smart" giving a golf clap to mock her. Mathilde clenching her fists as she stares hard at Josephine. Whose eyes are equally intense looking.
"You always have to be such a cow. Yet we both know I wanted this rematch years ago. I whooped you without the gloves on and now I get the chance to take your gold. That will make this even more worthwhile." Says a fired up Mathilde.
The champion shakes her head. Replying "the only reason you have this shot is because you have been claiming to be the best in our country. Yet who is the champion here huh? Beating our fellow country women doesn't make you a star. So when I beat you once again then there will be no doubt who is the Queen of Denmark when it comes to that ring." Pointing at the title on her right shoulder. Josephine clearly feeling that wins the argument on whose the best.
Mathilde clearly not agreeing as she stands up looking ready to fight now. Coaches holding them apart as they trade insults and threats. Things calm down enough for them to walk off the stage at separate ends. Saving their aggression fit the big day.
Fight Night! First here comes the challenger down the aisle. Mathilde has her coach behind her as she stares intensely at the ring. Knowing this is a massive opportunity for her to prove herself on the biggest stage. She steps through the ropes into the ring wearing a black sports bra. Matching trunks, shoes and gloves, while her hair is in a ponytail. Pounding her gloves together as she bounces on her toes waiting for the champion.
Not long for her to wait as here comes Josephine with Taryn Terrell behind her. Taryn holds the title up as she smiles to the crowd. Josephine meanwhile looks deeply serious as this is a personal bout. Climbing into the ring wearing a white sports bra with maroon stripes down the sides, matching trunks and shoes, maroon coloured gloves on, as her hair is braided. Josephine taps the gold plate of the title belt as she nods to Taryn that it will be coming home with her.
The referee is handed the title belt. Both fighters come to the center of the ring. Where they can look at the grand prize they are fighting over. Though both keep an eye on each other. Neither touches gloves with their opponent when prompted, instead they jog back to their corners. The bell rings to begin 10 rounds of BBU welterweight title action.
Round 1:
"Ding!" Out jog the fighters to engage each other. Trading stiff jabs as they try to get on the front foot. Mathilde stepping in with a jab/straight combo. She just misses with a left hook as Josephine steps back and counters with a jab square into the face of her opponent. Both have their moments in the opening minute as they know each other so well.
Deflecting a straight from Gohler. Skriver lands a short right hook to the ribs of her opponent, followed by a left hook onto her jaw. Mathilde retreating back with a straight slamming into the chin of the challenger to knock her back. Confidence now on the side of Josephine as she steps after her foe.
Mathilde being outworked now as she tightens her guard. Throwing more single punches then her opponent. Josephine mixing up her punches nicely to go to the body to bring down the guard of Mathilde. The round soon comes to an end with both jogging back to their corners.
Round 2:
Back out they come trading more blows now. Mathilde looking to be more aggressive. Ducking under a jab to land a jab of her own into the chest of Skriver. A right hook landing up top to turn the head of the champion. Allowing Mathilde to drive back her foe towards the ropes.
Herding the champion around near the ropes. Mathilde looks focused to crush her rival as she sends in hooks around the guard of Josephine. With Josephine firing back with straight punches into the face of Mathilde when she sees gaps in her defences from her being so open.
Pushing off Mathilde to get away from the ropes. Josephine needing to match her opponents intensity now. Trading punches as they fight around the ring. Mathilde holding the center making Josephine move on the outside. The round soon comes to a close with Mathilde showing that she is here to win, not be a simple win for the champion.
Round 3:
Tapping her cheeks before she steps back out, Josephine starts to double up her jab. Making it harder for Mathilde to step in. With both smacking punches through the others guards as they open up more. With Mathilde getting caught stepping in with a left hook onto her cheek.
A straight knocks back Mathilde's head. With Josephine drives her back into a neutral corner. Looking to land hooks but getting clinched up by her challenger. Both spitting a few insults in their native tongue, maybe to not get a warning from the referee. Still they get one when broken up to focus on boxing and not talking.
They resume with Josephine back on top. Keeping Mathilde mostly on the back foot as she starts throwing combos. Getting hit back by a few solid straight punches back into her face. At the bell there's a moment where they lock eyes before walking to their corners. Getting wiped down as their coaches give them advice.
Round 4:
Fists fly early on as Mathilde looks to step up a gear. Both drilling in punches to mark up cheeks. A left cross smacks the champion onto her nose. A follow up right hook then sends Josephine onto her heels. Driving the champion back to the ropes. Mathilde works the body trying to open up Skriver. Getting clipped around her cheeks in reply by the champ.
An uppercut catches Josephine on her chin to rock her back onto the ropes. Mathilde coming in hard after after, making Josephine cover up as the Gohler supporters cheer her on. Josephine needing to hold onto her when hooks start catching her around her cheeks. Grinding their toned bodies together. The fighters battle for control in all forms of the fight. Referee struggling to break them apart.
Once they are apart with forty five seconds roughly left. Josephine is quick to land a jab/straight into the face of her challenger. Showing she isn't going to be bossed around the ring so easily. The fighters plant their feet to exchange as they come together in the dying moments of the round. Cracks of leather ringing out from their punches before the bell rings to end the round. Sitting on their stools with eyes locked. The crowd is whistling and cheering both fighters as this is closely fought so far.
Round 5:
The fighters step out their corner to engage again. A little frustration on both their faces as they trade straight punches. Josephine steps in with a left hook. Mathilde landing one herself as faces get turned around. Josephine is quicker off the mark with a straight into the him of her opponent to knock her head back.
Mathilde is on the defensive jabbing at Josephine. While the champ looks for ways to land her power punches. Feinting before landing an overhand left into the ear of Mathilde to make her cry out. Mathilde now finding herself backed into a neutral corner by Skriver. Who is firing a mixture of punches in to make Mathilde groan out with each clean hit.
But Josephine leaves her left a little low. A right hook crashes onto the chin of Josephine. With a follow up jab into her mush making the champ back off. Wanting to put her own stamp on the round, Mathilde steps inside the reach of Josephine to pound away at her body. Josephine gritting her teeth as she fires back. The round comes to an end with both giving their opponent a shove. they walk back to their corners with both taking a breath on their stools to keep themselves relaxed.
Round 6:
Mathilde pushing forwards out the gate. Knowing she needs to change the momentum of this fight and keep it if she is to take the title. Things getting a little more scruffy as they nearly clash heads twice as Mathilde steps in with hooks. Josephine needing to land a double jab into the forehead of her rival to send a little sweat flying and to keep her at bay.
Into the second minute of the round. Mathilde lands a straight that pushes back Josephine. A short left hook on the chin of the champ turns her head. Getting pushed to the ropes as Mathilde looks to unload, getting clinched instead before she can open up. They try to power each other back with the referee struggling to split them up.
Once they are apart it's another hard exchange of punches. Gohler with a short left to the chest of Skriver before landing an overhand right. There's a little mouse under the left eye of Josephine from it. With Mathilde roughly shoving to the ropes. Josephine covering up as Mathilde opens up her elbows to throw hooks in. Not all land but they are helping to pin the champion down. The bell rings with Mathilde walking to her corner with a hard look on her face. Josephine stares at her with a scowl. Not enjoying the rounds that Mathilde is on top.
Round 7:
Getting off their stools to engage again. Things are slowing a little but the punches they throw are still as hard. With cheeks taking the brunt of the blows with cracks of leather. Again Mathilde looks to walk through Josephine. She misses with a right hook. A counter left smacks across her temple. There's a little wobble to the legs of Gohler.
There's a little spark in Josephine's eyes as she sees that moment of weakness. A right hook sends Mathilde back onto her heels. The challenger rocked back towards the ropes as she tries to fire back. A RIGHT HOOK AROUND THE TEMPLE OF MATHILDE SENDS HER CRASHING DOWN TO THE CANVAS!
Josephine mumbles something before walking to the neutral corner. A relieved look on her face after putting her rival down. 1...2....3....4.. Can Mathilde get up though? She has slowly turned to her front as she groans. 5...6.. Trying to grab the ropes in front of herself. 7...8... But she is missing them as she looks badly buzzed! 9...10 that's it for this title fight!

The champion retains her title with a big beaming smile. Going two and zero over her national rival now. Walking over to plant her right foot on the back of Mathilde's back. Raising her arms into the air for the cameras so the world and especially back in Denmark can see who the superior woman is.
Once Josephine feels she has made her point. She walks back to her corner as Mathilde's coach rushes to check on her. The winner getting a hug from her corner crew. Beyond happy to have beaten her biggest rival in the ring. Taryn telling her that she is the best in her eyes.
Mathilde is sat up on her stool after a few moments. Head down as her cheeks are red from as much embarrassment as being marked up. She thought this would be the night she evened the score with Josephine. Instead she can't bare to look at the celebrations going on over the opposite side of the ring.
Once Mathilde is patched up, as soon as she sees the flag of their home country being handed to Josephine she wants out. Leaving the ring with her coaches help. Looking back a moment to stare daggers at Josephine to show she still habors a hate for her.
Inside the ring Josephine draps the Denmark flag over her shoulders. A few tears of joy in her eyes as her title belt is placed around her waist as the result is announced. Josephine has her right hand raised in the air. Where she lifts her flag up to loud cheers from her supporters. Going on a lap of honour moments later as she thanks the fans.
Leaving the ring afterwards. She smiles as she tells Taryn "this means so much to me." Taryn nodding before replying "well you have to grab these moments when you can, next fight will be another tough one and you need to be at your best." Keeping Josephine grounded as the champion nods with a smile. Who will be next to get a shot at the gold?
