Final part: Interview with Diana KorkunovaMichelle: hey guys, I continue to be blessed by who comes into our
studio, this week is certainly no exception as welcome our special
guest from the Sirens stable; Diana Korkunova!
(Diana comes out wearing a light blue dress with black heels, her and Michelle both smile and give each other a hug, before sitting down at the two seats that face each other)
Michelle: it is honestly wonderful to meet you Diana, I have to start
by asking how are you finding the BBU with the Sirens behind you?
Diana: I’m a long way from home, but it’s been the most exciting part of my life, apart from my modelling career, of course, which is also taking off. So far, my stable mates have been very nice to me – protective, even – and I’m very glad that they’ve been so cool about me main-eventing twice in a row now.
Michelle: I hope you don't take this the wrong way, but you are the
smallest in your stable and I'd be right with youngest correct? Do the
girls treat you as the little sister of the group?
Diana: Damn right they'd better *laughs*. You’re correct that I’m the smallest and youngest. Maybe that’s how I’ve been able to stand out from the rest in the eyes of the crowd. Why would I take it the wrong way though? I appreciate the extra attention it gives me and the rest of the Sirens don’t seem to mind either (I hope).
Michelle: you won your BBU debut against Frankie Bridge in I have to
say was a great performance, did you ever get worries in that fight
that things were going over your head or did you feel you were in
total control?
Diana: I’d be lying to say that I wasn’t nervous going into my first fight - I mean, who wouldn’t, really? Frankie took advantage of my nervousness early on, but I remember saying, ‘Screw it’ to myself somewhere mid-way and decided to just go all or nothing on her. Kudos to her though – I think we could’ve gone a few more rounds. Result would’ve been the same though *wink*.
Michelle: something we spoke about with your manager when we first
spoke to them was about why he had focused on models, what do you feel
you and others from your profession bring?
I mean your manager seemed to know, but a first hand account is always
better.
Diana: When Caspian approached me, he explained that he first found me through Instagram, and that’s where most of the scouting takes place nowadays anyways.
I was at first taken aback by his proposal, but also flattered that he had flown himself all the way to Moscow just to speak with me. I said I would consider it at that time.
But to answer your question, I would say that I’m in the prime shape of my life. I mean, you just have to be in order to survive in the modelling business and of course to retain a strong following on social media.
We’re athletic, passionate about what we do, and some of us even have boxing / martial arts experience as we keep in shape. To me, it’s a perfect, natural fit and logical next step for us to for get in the ring and compete with other girls. I’m personally doing this to raise my online profile and to stay in shape. If I can also make a few extra bucks along the side, why the hell not? That’s why I told him ‘Yes’ eventually.
Michelle: on a similar note, you have Danielle Sharp as your next
fight, she is a fellow model and some, including us think she's the
real deal, what makes you believe you can beat her?
Diana: It depends on your definition of the ‘real deal’. Caspian thought I was definitely the ‘real deal’ as well. I wouldn’t be here if he didn’t believe in me. So I refuse to let him and the rest of my sisters down either. I’m just gonna give it my all, no matter what the rest think.
Whatever happens, I’m sure I’ll learn from it and try even harder the next time. So, all the best to you, Danielle. *smiles*
Michelle: lastly we have to ask as it is the standard question; what
is your end game as they say? You fall into flyweight and bantamweight
divisions, so is there one belt you really want or just want to win
everything? Haha
Diana: I’ve been asked this question quite a lot recently. I have a feeling it’s a question asked by a lot of the other girls in my own division as they're afraid of another threat in the division. To allay your fears, girls, no, I’m not gunning for your title. Not yet, at least. I explained earlier that I’m just here to have fun for now. If one day the Flyweight title around my waist sounds like fun, so be it. For now though, my end game is deciding what to have for lunch later. *laughs*
Michelle: thank you so much for your time, if you ever need a sparring
partner in the ring or the wrestling mat who isn't as big as your
stablemates, I can fill in.
Diana: *giggles* Glad to hear it. Mathilde has been kicking my ass during sparring sessions.
(Both girls stand up and hug as the lights start to dim to end the show)
