Sirens V: Maelstrom review
Hello BBU fans, this is Molly from the Real View and since this weekends episode will be about this months PPV, we are not going to let this card go by without do a special episode for it, so let's get into the bouts.
Danielle Robertson vs Rachael Finch:
Danielle hasn't exactly lit the world on fire with her performances out of the gate, while Rachael did that early in her career by becoming the ACB lightweight champion, though she lost that title to now former champion Poppy Montgomery, she has an impressive record.
So this looked not to be a good fight for Danielle, whose on a bad run of results, but the early rounds belittled that as she took the fight to Finch.
The fight evened out as Rachael started to come to grips with her opponent, even scoring a knockdown in round 4, though she'd suffer one in return in round 6.
The end came in the 7th, a uppercut barrage took the legs from the youngster out from under her and Rachael piled more misery onto her plate.
Rachael maybe deserving another run at the BBU title or simply the ACB one at the very least, while Danielle needs to go back to the drawing board, I think prospect wise currently she's bottom of the pile concerning the stable.
Considering they all have high ceilings, it may not be the end of the world but how long will she be happy being the least successful in the group though?
Clara Alonso vs Alice Medina:
OK I won't pretend I know who Alice is without the trustie aid of Google, from what I can see, she's an actress and has been supporting cast on things like "Beyond Glory" "Diary of a Teenage Girl" so I don't know how many big fights off name alone she'll get.
But the BBU is the land of opportunity, if she could beat Clara, whose record is roughly even, then why doesn't she deserve more work.
Both girls are from Spain, anyone who has seen a Latin girls temper knows to run for the hills when it starts up, so picture these two strong willed and packed with hard slaps just going at it at the press event before the fight, it was something to behold.
The real fight? Well we got a knockdown in round 1! Both fighters just beating the daylights out of the other.
The fight got to round 5 with both girls of course hurting, Clara using her slight experience advantage to take control of the fight, putting a game Alice down three times to finally put her away.
Alice certainly showed heart and spirit, can she turn this defeat around and become successful? I'd like to see her at least get a chance, maybe she could fight Danielle Robertson.
Clara meanwhile continues to be an enigma, this wasn't the greatest performance technically, but it never was going to be, instead it showed she does have the mental and physical toughness to get up and go on to win.
But career wise, she's stuck in sort of gatekeeper mode, beating a few rookies, some of the older talents, but struggling to break out against the sharks of the division, so it will be interesting to see if she can break out the pack soon.
Pia Miller vs Jayne Moore:
OK back to Google for a moment, ah right; Jayne Moore is a model for those like me who need to brush up more on these talents, Tom is telling me to make a joke about Danny Rose and Google, what's that about?
Anyway like Alice she has come to the right place, where we don't judge your ability on if you are a Oscar winner or are famous for scratching your backside on a reality show, we judge talent, so what talents did Jayne bring to the table.
Well I can't forget to talk about the build up, Pia is well known to be a bytch on set in Home & Away, something she has expertly brought to the table in press events with her whining and moaning, God I wish I was tall enough to slap her, but I would need a box to stand on.
The fight, not much to say really, unlike Alice in the last fight, Jayne was simply outclassed and pounded into mush, round 2 being the closest thing to success for her as she caught Pia with some nice hooks, but I'd even say she lost that round due to her lack of work rate.
It is hard to guage if Jayne has a real future after this, maybe she can get another fight that will hopefully give her some chance to show what she can do, why do I feel she just did though?
On Pia, well she did the business, you can't go overboard and say this was a super victory considering her opposition, but you can say it was utterly professional her performance and she deserves praise for that, unlike England against Iceland, (Tom what are you talking about?)
Melissa Satta vs Tamara Ecclestone:
Well I do know Tamara and won't exactly say she's someone I'd probably share a drink with, the same goes for Melissa, this was pardon my French a Salope Lutte, which is bytch fight I'm told or my translator app is a piece of crap.
Anyway, the story going into the fight was Melissa is claiming to be number uno in her stable, sorry for my Spanish, I think, anyway she wants to be classed as the top dog.
Tamara of course doesn't care about that, she just wants to rip the head off anyone who breaths the same posh air as her or attempts to get into her "elite" realm, ask Pippa Middleton about that.
So the fight had the build up, both girls big punches as shown by the early rounds back and forth slugfest, with Tamara actually taking the advantage to lead the fight going into the second half.
Though the action wasn't all clean, with Tamara liberally going low with her punches, I have told the BBU board to do eye tests on referees as they seem blind at the best of times.
The second half of the fight saw Melissa roar back into the fight, punishing Tamara to the body and later busting the money on plastic surgery nose of the "socialite"
But this was after Melissa had been put down, the knockdown seemingly waking her up to actually get her ass into gear or expect Petra Nemcova to taunt her in the locker room.
Melissa put down Tamara in the 6th, the British fighter getting up and looking raring to go, that led to her being stopped finally in the seventh and as they say someone's 0 had to go, well it was Tamara's that went bye, bye.
The Italian showing she does have a good claim to be the top bytch if you will in the pound, but she has one fatal flaw to her game, she fights like a gunslinger, throwing the harder punches, what happens when she meets a girl with a bigger punch, like let's say her fellow Italian Elisabetta Gregoraci?
While Tamara fought gamely, rumors being that she will fight Alesha Dixon next, that should be interesting as Tamara will most likely have to cut down to bantamweight for that, will she lose some of that power and can Alesha turn back time to when she was a top fighter?
One thing is for sure, the post match brawl that followed shows these two are far from done with each other, I've heard that TV companies want these two to oil wrestle, an MMA company wants them to step into the cage and of course BBU executives will be rushing around to try to make a rematch happen, my opinion? Just let them fight in an alleyway where they belong.
Main Event: Petra Nemcova vs Jenna Pietersen:
This was the top billed fight, adding fuel to the Melissa and Petra fire that is happening inside the Siren's stable over who the best in their band of sisters is, stay tuned for my answer.
Both these fighters are highly rated in the office here at RV, they are undefeated in the BBU and have dispatched of opponent's with ease, so would we see an early knockout here or a war of epic proportions?
Well the build up saw both fighters very respectful of the other and promising a good clean fight, with neither showing any malice to the other throughout their speeches and the weigh in.
It led to a slow start to the fight, both girls with probing punches, maybe due to the respect they have or maybe deep down they were afraid if they got stuck in they could be flat out on the canvas.
Petra starting the better of the fighters once she started to show that aggressive streak, but Jenna must have been scouting well for this as she started to show her technique to move and counter her opponent.
Both girls cancelling each other out as the fight went on, Jenna and Petra going back and forth with who controlled the action, the crowd looking it as it was becoming the fight of the night.
Jenna though started to control the later rounds, her speed and reading of her opponent's movement to counter allowed her to seemingly take the rounds as the fight headed towards it's conclusion.
The South African even scoring a knockdown in round 7, but that was the last of her real success as Petra fought her way back and it led to a tense close to the fight.
The power punches of Petra finally wore Jenna down, till in round 9 she managed to knock her down, the South African fighter getting back up but the referee had to step in as Jenna got beaten into a mess, the fight ending in the ninth.
Petra showing that the prefight talk wasn't bull as she checked on Jenna, both embracing to show no hard feelings, even though they made each other look a real mess.
The feeling now is Jenna is a real title contender now, she maybe 40 soon but she looks like she is a champion in waiting if this performance is anything to go off.
But she is probably going to be worrying about Melissa in her own stable, maybe the girls need a cooling off period or to slap the taste out of each others mouth to sort out this mess.
Oh before I forget, Diana Korkunova is better then both of them, they mean the best lightweight, well that is easy, the one who wins between them, it's not rocket science.
Jenna meanwhile will bounce back I'm sure of it, she has great skills and a smart boxing brain, a few wins to build her confidence up and she'll probably be in the hunt for the title herself soon enough.
So that is my review of the card, as ever it certainly was an experience to watch and I suggest if you missed this card to go watch the next one, the Sirens have become irreplaceable around here.
