Hi,
It's Georgie here. Last night we enjoyed a truly epic card up north in Gateshead! Let's break down the action and see who deserves the front page news the following morning!
IVANA BAQUERO vs MICHELLE HEATON
So, Ivana nearly upset the best British fighter in business on her debut (that's one Jenna-Louise Coleman for all ye ignorants) and that seems to have earned her the right to pick off random journeywomen now! Quite frankly I didn't expect Michelle to be back in the ring after going 0-4 over fours years ago. But she IS back and well, even the Gateshead home crowd didn't help her much. It was a blow out. Anywhere else Michelle would quit on her stool after the second round but she had enough pride left in her to avoid the most humiliating of exits. Alas she was duly stopped in the third. I hope she enjoys the appearance fee she received from the Girls Friday hosts!
What next for Ivana? Well, that's gonna be interesting to see now. I guess she'll fight other punchbags for the remainder of the year and then really turn up the heat in 2017! How old is she, again?
ELENA SANTARELLI vs DELTA GOODREM
Talk about a spoiled birthday party!
Thankfully the hosts didn't follow the easy script here and booked probably the best welterweight that didn't make the Title Tournament cut in Delta Goodrem. The reason why the Aussie singer didn't make the cut was to avoid another Erika Heynatz clone that would shut off the Europeans from the title for the next two or three years again. However that meant Delta was ANGRY!!! She didn't give poor Elena any quarter and delivered the beatdown of the night!
On the other hand I'm surprised that Santarelli calls Gateshead her BBU home. She's one of the few women from the old GF roster that somehow survived the new ownership but I think she's only good enough to beat those Page Three tramps and maybe Abbey Crouch. She's the ultimate journeywoman but if you like six feet tall blondes, she's the one for you! Btw, at 34C she might find some work in JMDD as a career-saver but she turned 35 yesterday and got ass-kicked for a birthday present. Does it come any worse than that?
ELIZABETH HENSTRIDGE vs LOUISE REDKNAPP
Another case of Girls Friday handing out the cash! Louise Redknapp, a classic no-hoper, a girl whom I beat in three rounds!!! Yes, ladies & gentlemen, that's my only scalp in my oh so excellent BBU career! I mean, Henstridge was a newcomer but we're talking Redknapp here, the worst the BBU flyweight has ever seen! I'm surprised the fight lasted as long as it did! The end result was NID!!
However it proves that Redknapp is just stupid. She took the cash and allowed to rookie to whack her ass! Top class!
I need to see more from Elizabeth because this results tells me nothing if she's the next Ivana Baquero ot not (probably not tbh). Losing that pre-fight catfight was a bad sign!
KELLY GALE vs DAISY LOWE
Kelly is a real talent for the GF guys but perhaps sometimes she becomes a little to sympathetic in the ring. I don't know if she ever channels her inner bytch so to speak ;-) However Daisy's career never took off and she's buried near the end of the bench at the loaded Kats roster. All in all, this was a perfect match-up and well, Kelly did just what's expected from her! She may have lost to Helena Mattsson in a battle for Swedish supremacy but the future is hers! I'm rarely this high on a newcomer like Gale but she's looking at a lenghty BBU career (unless she jumps ship to America).
POPPY DRAYTON vs ELIZABETH TAN
OK, so the Girls Friday fired Elizabeth Tan only to invite her back as cannon fodder? That's evil management from Mel Sykes! But that's how you become a real force! Drayton has a bigger upside than Elizabeth Henstridge and may rise into serious contention in the next two years or so. However this was too easy for her. Apparently Tan is pushing for a (T)KO1 loss record, that's two in a row this year alone! But there won't be any complaints about this one after she accused Doda of dirty boxing in January.
I didn't vote for Beatdown of The Night here because Delta Goodrem pounded her opponent a little (sic!) longer and it's not a defensive award after all. Plus I rate Santarelli higher than Tan! Heck, it's a close call now between Redknapp & Tan for the wooden spoon honors!
SARA SAMPAIO vs MIRIAM LEONE
This was the Main Event and well, if there's anyone able to overshadow Kelly Gale, it's probably Sara Sampaio! I hope it's not too cold for her in Gateshead though! Meanwhile Miriam has found second life after getting axed from Latin Union and seems to be a genuine floater these days. She's in the mix for welterweight too but should focus on lightweight now. In fact, this was a real monster test for Sara and she passed it with better marks that Kelly Gale! Sure, Miriam knocked her down but nobody has an iron chin and will have to come from behind at one point. The comeback here from Sara was impressive and Leone is a better fighter/harder puncher than Daisy Lowe.
All in all, this was the best fight of the night and deserved the Main Event billing!
I hope we get to see more of these Girls Friday PPVs over the next months as they're really exciting - even if women like Redknapp and Tan show up only to collect their paycheck!
