Vera Brezhneva vs Una Healy
(BBU Independent vs Double A Boxing)
(5-1, 5 KO vs 24-11, 18 KO)
Results: BBU; Story: Vassago
BEFORE: This is one of the most anticipated comebacks of the year as former two-time BBU bantamweight champion Una Healy is ready to wreck havoc in the 120 lbs division again. The sultry redhead hasn't fought since dropping the straps to Lea Seydoux thirteen months ago but her seven successful title defenses actually combine for the most decorated resume among all BBU bantamweights. Denise van Outen has little doubts when she says Una is indeed the best bantam the BBU has ever seen and that includes Jessica Schwarz allthough the alleged English/German bias might have something to do with this claim.
Una is also the only woman who has defeated Vera's bitter rival Dorota Rabczewska to date but vows to terminate the narrative that these two Eastern European blondes are the new gold standard of the division: "Look, I've whacked that Polish bimbo twice already and now her buddy gets to feel my wrath too. I have a lot of respect for Jessica Schwarz but neither Doda nor Vera deserve all the love from the media they get. It's time to expose the latter just like I exposed the other one before!"
Vera Brezhneva wears a light blue bikini set and yellow gloves. Long blonde hair tied in a custom ponytail. Una Healy wears a green bikini set and white gloves. Long copper-brown hair loose & straight. The fight is scheduled for ten rounds in the bantamweight division.
Una's pre-fight comments indicate she didn't exactly spend the past year sunbathing in the Bahamas all the time so her offensive gallop surprises nobody inside the Cardiff Arena except the blonde whom she targets with a vicious hooking blast. And just like that she nails Vera on the lips causing her to stumble back to her heels where she suffers more Irish wrath. Una digs her mitts in ferocious style to split the fellow singer's defense on the spot and pounds her onto the ropes well inside the opening minute. Doda has seen this kind of aggressive push from Una before but Vera needs to gather her thoughts quickly as she earns a fat lip for her early trouble here in the opener. Healy barks in her efforts to knock her opponent senseless but gets clinched into a stalemate and Brezhneva refuses to break free which makes the crowd very upset indeed. She drags the stalemate into the final minute despite the referee's multiple efforts to separate them but Una gut-checks her to resume control and spends the final stretch whacking her to the body in supreme fashion.
Vera's on her toes from the bell and she does a good job to avoid another Irish rush; Una seems convinced the Ukrainian vixen is somewhat overrated and just lays it into her body again but then soaks up a nasty response over the top and Vera blasts her across the lips to force a separation. The younger woman displays some quick feet to stay out of trouble and she forces Healy to chase her around the ring before looping a noteworthy response to smack single punches into the redhead's face. Una's too experienced not to adjust her tactics and she lets the action calm right down come the final minute with Brezhneva unwilling to make a push for it herself.
Brezhneva seems to have settled into a counter-punching stance and she bides her time in mid-distance while keeping the footwork supremacy alive. Una mixes both speed and power which is a lethal combo in any division but that's why she became so successful over the years and Denise van Outen notices the redhead is visibly upset here now that Vera seems to be playing into her strenghts. There's no proper Eastern European grudge to follow like in Doda's case so the blonde is happy to weather the Irish storm that becomes fairly erratic once more Healy punches find the air rather than flesh. And Vera works the counter-punching drill to the limit as she splits the ex-champion's mitts repeatedly come the final minute to literally stagger one frustrated redhead in the center of the ring.
Una comes flying out of the gate but misjudges her initial approach and gets clubbed to the chest as Vera suddenly leaps forward and cashes in with a solid uppercut on the follow up. She bumps the older singer to her heels and beats her for a left cross on the lips that wobbles Una towards the ropes. The ex-champion escapes the incoming rush but it's Vera's turn to hassle some prey around the ring and Healy trips over her own feet in a hectic retreat that allows the blonde to sink her with a belting hook below the elbow. Ugh! Una's liver area gets pierced with a nasty shot and she groans out in pain but there's Vera blasting her against the nose and adding another painful uppercut on the chin... UNA IS HURT!!! She stumbles back to the ropes with another loud whimper and can't react fast enough anymore as the blonde NAILS her with a vicious left hook on the nose one more time... DOWN GOES HEALY!!! That silences the Cardiff audience and even Denise van Outen jumps to her feet as the Irish girl crashes to the canvas HARD!!! Uh-oh... this will be close, folks!!! Una fends off the knockdown daze at eight but can only stare at her opponent now and Vera romps into another attack; she traps the redhead in the neutral corner where she splits her guard again and makes her scream out when blood begins to leak from the busted up lips. There's no proper response from the ex-champion anymore and Brezhneva truly beats her up here during the final few seconds but the referee refuses to stop it and the bell finally comes to Healy's rescue but she's bruised like rarely seen before and quite frankly her face sports that ugly pink & reddish shade now as well.
Has Una recovered from that terrible previous round? We hardly get to know the answer since Brezhneva blitzes her prey and snaps the Irish head back & forth to sink the ex-champion into more spasms literally seconds within the bell. The Beast from the East takes a whole new meaning now and they build them tough in Ukraine for sure. Vera gets vocal as she renders Una's guard useless and just keeps bashing her face in until the proud Irish girl simply can't take it anymore and SLIDES ONTO HER KNEES with eyes closed. Man oh man, that was brutal!!! Referee checks up on the fallen girl but she shows no signs of getting up and the fight is waved off!!! KO5 Vera Brezhneva!!!
AFTER: Denise van Outen is lost for words and so is the Cardiff Arena. Vera made plenty of noise since her BBU arrival but nobody expect this beating at the expense of one of the most decorated fighters around the league. Una looked really good in the early stages but somehow got sucked into a wild slugfest and came out second best. Unbelievable! Vera launches a vocal tirade at the referee and Una's corner but BBU TV is unable to provide the Russian translation and perhaps only Dorota Rabczewska could immediately respond to it.
Regardless of all this bad-tempered talk, Vera walked the walk tonight and send more shock-waves through the BBU bantamweight division which suddenly looms as the strongest in the entire league. Even Denise van Outen has lost count how many elite contenders are ready to strip Helen Flanagan off her divisional straps now. And the funny thing is, Una Healy is by no means done based on tonight's result. She's been through a much worse slump before (2012/13) and still came back to win the title again. She might look utterly shell-shocked while being escorted away from the ring but Denise van Outen reckons this is only a temporary setback for the future BBU Hall of Famer.
Final result: Vera Brezhneva def. Una Healy KO5
