BBU Welterweight Title Eliminator aka #1 Contenders Bout
Vogue Williams vs Rozanna Purcell
(3-0, 3 KO vs 3-0, 3 KO)
Results: BBU; Story: Vassago
BEFORE: It's time for an Irish derby here in Cardiff and the only reason this fight wasn't booked for a Dublin venue is both Vogue Williams and Rozanna Purcell are thinking big picture. With Joan Smalls set to defend her welterweight title vs Toni Garrn later tonight, none of these Irish girls believe Garrn is actually any better or more deserving to enter the championship spotlight so they each target getting into the champion's face either here in the arena or during the post-event VIP party.
This is just about the only thing both Vogue and Roz agree on and there's plenty of bad temper flying around these two before the fight. Vogue dismisses Rozanna's pageant past as "irrelevant" while Purcell responds that Williams is just another "fat cow that knows nothing about genuine boxing". Denise van Outen disagrees with these last comments and points out Vogue has downed better opposition so far which includes Alex Curran and Martha Hunt.
Vogue Williams wears a navy blue bikini set and silver gloves. Long brown hair with blonde highlights tied in a sleek ponytail. Rozanna Purcell wears a red bikini set and yellow gloves. Long light brown hair tied in a curled ponytail. The fight is scheduled for ten rounds in the welterweight division.
Round 1:
Heavy slugging from the opening bell as the Irish pride prevails over tactics and has both girls dishing out punishment up the middle. Vogue's guard proves superior during the initial exchange but she then gets whacked by a nasty hook on the jaw as Rozanna lands that big punch first... she drops the brunette onto her heels and cashes in with more head-hunting juice that allows her to knock the model around thereafter. Vogue's unable to escape into mid-range as Purcell shows some lithe footwork to close her down and trap along the ropes come the two-minute mark. The pageant winner switches downstairs to keep her opponent under wraps which leads into phone booth boxing where Williams slumps into early spasms; this only fuels Purcell's work rate as she cleans out shop to win the round outright.
Round 2:
Rozanna jumps into an early jabbing assault and keeps Vogue weaving around rather than responding in aggressive fashion. However the younger woman fails to take it to the house and skims off the model's forearms which leaves her vulnerable for a counter-punching attack that follow through come the second minute. Williams becomes more aggressive once she avoided the initial Purcel rush and drops one single punch after another to neutralize her foe down the stretch. Both girls cycle around the ring still seeking that haymaker break-through but the actions slows down inside the final minute with Rozanna looking a little upset she can't reel the brunette to the ropes anymore.
Round 3:
Vogue's tactical switch enables her to lure Rozanna into a classic trap and when the pageant winner jumps in with more jabbing assault, she gets clocked with a right hand on the nose that wobbles her to the side before Williams DRILLS her exposed breadbasket with a belting hook. Ugh! Purcell sinks on jelly knees with a loud whimper while the older brunette nails her with another quick double to glue her to the spot... Rozanna tries to unload the overhand counter but fails to adjust her feet and finds nothing but thin air while Vogue is right there on target to slam a left cross on the nose... AND DOWN GOES PURCELL!!! Ugh! That's some genuine welter power supply right there which poor Roz couldn't handle... she hits the deck hard but recovers back to her feet at six! "You little tramp!", she shouts at the visibly satisfied opponent and we're back into the slugging drill that Vogue weathers with pure speed & agility. Purcell struggles with execution affected by the 'red mist' zone and eats a nasty hook on the nose which sags her on soft knees right at the bell again!
Round 4:
Williams realizes she has the golden opportunity now so she doesn't rush her approach and simply waits for Roz to come after her instead. And it's rather obvious the former Miss Ireland follows that route but keeps skimming off the older brunette's guard while getting dragged into more counter-punching misery! Ugh! Vogue nails her on the temples from both flanks before another nasty hook tags the nose and wobbles Purcell forward... Vogue moves onto the front (left) leg and quickly throws it out of the park with a drilling uppercut that catches Roz flush on the jaw... AND DOWN SHE GOES AGAIN!!! Purcell goes down like a sack of potatoes and can barely whimper her troubles now... forget the swift recovery this time... she lifts herself onto all fours at seven but that's ALL she wrote here!!! The count passes her by as she stares down at the canvas and it's a huge KO4 Vogue Williams!!!
AFTER: Vogue makes sure Rozanna really feels the magnitude of this result as she kicks her in the butt to level her face-down with the canvas! She pins her heel against her back and shouts back at the rampant Cardiff audience: "That's the way I like it! Ready or not, the welter straps are going my way SOON!!!" She then kneels down and whispers something in Rozanna's ear but the fallen pageant doesn't react to the probable taunting and remains face down still mulling the grim reality of the divisional title challenge deserting her on the big stage tonight.
Meanwhile Denise van Outen praises the style of this victory and believes Vogue has earned her rights at the crown with this epic destruction of a formidable opponent. She took advantage of Rozanna's short fuse when she needed it and blasted her out on national TV! There's nothing wrong with that even though Purcell committed a horrible mistake of getting way too careless. She didn't clash with a mere journeywoman here and when she couldn't overwhelm Williams in the slugging drill, she ought to think better off it. Alas it was the older brunette who adjusted her tactics first and claimed a deserved victory! So, it's either Joan Smalls or Toni Garrn for Williams next! BBU executives make it official on social media a couple of minutes after her arm is raised in the air following this Irish eliminator battle.
Final result: Vogue Williams def. Rozanna Purcell KO4.
