Heidi Range vs Hannah Spearritt
(Lioness Club vs BBU Independent)
(15-13, 13 KO vs 7-6, 6 KO)
Results: BBU; Story: Vassago
BEFORE: Heidi Range enjoyed front page exposure during the Contenders Six tournament earlier this season but walked away with only a single win in five attempts so her career revival requires additional opportunity. She destroyed Hannah Spearritt back in 2012 already but with the former S Club 7 singer struggling in free agency a rematch meeting between the two blondes doesn't appear to be such a bad idea after all. Meanwhile Hannah refuses to acknowledge her boxing career is over and vows to spoil the Lioness party tonight. She stopped Emma Bunton two years ago so perhaps the genuine upset is on the cards. BBU TV's Charlie Webster reckons that would require a great deal of ignorance from the Merseyside singer but stranger things have happened in female celebrity boxing before!
Heidi Range wears a red sports bra, white knickers and red gloves. Long blonde hair tied in a sleek ponytail. Hannah Spearritt wears a light blue bikini set and black gloves. Long blonde hair wrapped in a thick bun at the back of her head. The fight is scheduled for ten rounds in the flyweight division.
Round 1:
Hannah tries to make an early jump on the fellow blonde but fails to overwhelm her during the initial tangle with Heidi sticking some quick jabs up the middle which triggers a proper dust up action. Both singers refuse to back off however Heidi delivers the best punch of the lot when she scythes Hannah on the lips and wobbles her on the heels. She misfires with the follow up though and allows the older blonde to escape into mid-range. Spearritt avoids the subsequent hassle and settles into a counter-punching effort with Heidi swinging wildly albeit without much success. The action slows down in the final minute but Range still gives the better impression as she keeps Spearritt dancing on her toes most of the way.
Round 2:
Another quick tangle in the opening minute has Heidi smacking her opponent up the middle but she struggles to connect with that big punch while Hannah secures a better response via the counter-punching route. She snaps Range's head back and clips her jugs before a nasty hook on the jaw stuffs the Merseyside singer on her heels. Another big punch finds the temple and drops Heidi onto the ropes alas Spearritt fails to cash in on the opportunity and gets clinched before she can really punish her rival. The lenghty wrestling struggle continues for remainder of the round and neither girl looks satisfied with that display when the bell eventually interrupts it.
Round 3:
Hannah tries to rack up some early punches in the third but fails to split Heidi's guard on a consistent basis and falls into a steady counter-punching assaulr thereafter as both girls focus on the head-hunting plan and punish each other in the center of the ring. Neither has the power supply available to smoke the other one outright but the action is thick & fast before Spearritt finds a hole to blast Heidi on the chin and wobbles her back on her heels. The Mersey blonde tries to swing from the back foot but meets a crunching hook on the eye that drops her into spasms instead and allows Hannah to shut her down following a leather burst to the body. Range has to yield real estate and gets trapped on the ropes where Hannah drills her midsection while avoiding the desperate earmuff upstairs.
Round 4:
More joy for the former S Club 7 singer who channels another head-hunting route and has Heidi reeling amid a desperate lunge over the top that barely grazes the older blonde's flesh. Spearritt connects with several clean single punches as Heidi's guard collapses in a shocking fashion to the point she gets glued to her heels and only soaks up the fellow blonde's juice up the middle. Hannah barks in her efforts to knock her foe down and when she hauls in another quick double on the swollen eye brow, Range wobbles forward with a whimper and gets SMOKED with a left hook on the chin THAT DROPS HER DOWN FOR THE COUNT! Huh! Mersey fighters don't exactly enjoy a huge support here in London so there's a loud cheer from the Wembley crowd as Heidi eventually fends off the knockdown heat at eight. She tries to sell a confident look but suddenly Hannah gears it up to the body and pummels her backwards with only the bell halting this charge. Hannah gets vocal as she vows to blow the former Sugababe away in the next round and there's a grim atmosphere over in the Lioness corner where coach Mel B. tries not to panic yet.
Round 5:
Spearritt blasts out of her corner seeking instant success alas she gets a little careless in her pursuit of the reeling Range who manages to stick a couple of good hooks before she tangles with the older blonde in the phone booth drill where she digs a nasty hook on the liver area to slump the fellow blonde into rare spasms. Another big hook clips the chin and wobbles Hannah back but she's on the verge of a proper upset so she launches another attack only to bounce off the top of Heidi's shoulder and eat a vicious hook on the mouth instead. Huh! She bends forward with a whimper and fails to react when a piercing uppercut NAILS her on the jaw moments later sending the S Club 7 fans into disarray! Heidi racks a swift combo on the nose before she LIFTS the suddenly vulnerable opponent off her feet with a brutal uppercut on the jaw... Oi, Hannah! The Yorkshire lass CRASHES DOWN IN A HEAP at Heidi's feet and gurgles her pain out as she tries to make a recovery. Uh-oh!! She only gets up onto all fours at seven and the wobbly effort to get up ends in the referee's embrace who calls the fight OFF!!! TKO5 Heidi Range in come-from-behind fashion!!!
AFTER: That's a horrible way to lose a fight Hannah was destined to win half-way through the fourth round! She had Heidi all but wrapped up here and allowed a shocking comeback in the fifth when she simply couldn't embrace a solid but not exactly elite hooking series that rattled her into a stoppage nightmare. No wonder Heidi looks relieved rather than happy over this result while poor Hannah tries oh-so hard not to cry her eyes out here in front of the Wembley audience. Her gatekeeping career might well be over now and it's time to embrace the journeywoman reality instead. Lioness coach Mel B. quickly rules out another rematch as Heidi's won both fights in this match-up so there's nothing left to ponder anymore and Hannah only has herself - and the woeful punching resistance - to blame for letting the Mersey singer off the hook tonight.
Final result: Heidi Range def. Hannah Spearritt TKO5.
