Amelle Berrabah vs Jeanette Biedermann
(BBU Independent vs Lioness Club)
(9-6, 8 KO vs 11-15, 10 KO)
Results: BBU; Story: Vassago
BEFORE: Things just haven't gone well for Amelle Berrabah ever since she dropped a BBU flyweight title bout to Cheryl Cole in July of last year. She's been released by the Marti's Maulers stable and found new opportunities non-existent as she probably remains too dangerous of a floater for any free agent-hungry upstarts and maybe a little too long in the teeth to attract a new management.
The same can't be said about Lioness Club veteran Jeanette Biedermann who keeps popping up on various BBU fight cards time and time again despite limited success in the last few years. She's been picked off by several contenders before but with Berrabah covered in ring rust, this could be one elite scalp she takes down tonight.
Amelle Berrabah wears a black basque top with red trim, black hip-huggers and red gloves. Long dark brown hair with blonde dye tied in a braid. Jeanette Biedermann wears a golden basque top, black hip-huggers and golden gloves. Long blonde hair tied in a sleek ponytail. The fight is scheduled for ten rounds in the flyweight division.
Round 1:
Most fans expect a classic flyweight bashing here in the opener alas Amelle struggles to make her shots count and looks every bit as sluggish like Denise van Outen predicted on social media preview. This results in Jeanette blasting some quick hooks up the middle that wreck havoc around the brunette's boobs but she only gets exposed when the German clips her on the jaw and sends reeling onto the ropes. Huh! Amelle tries to swing back but lacks the natural zip and falls into high-octane jabbing that allows Biedermann to score easy strikes even though her execution has been suspicious over the years. She takes full advantage of Amelle's rust though and buries her behind a tight earmuff while fying with more crisp punches to the body to underline her otherwise shocking dominance.
Round 2:
More problems for Berrabah who gets whacked with a left hook on the jaw and leaks more punches up the midde which only makes Biedermann even more determined for success. She barks in her efforts and the Wembley audience is soon handed a classic backtracking show from the ex-Sugababe who simply can't outwork the pesky blonde and her aerial assault. More punches bounce off the brunette's face as she lacks basic defense while dancing on the back foot and when she finally whacks a proper shot on the blonde's mouth, she fails to follow through and eats a jabbing series upstairs instead. She drops back to the turnbuckle where she applies more earmuff just to survive the onslaught and perhaps the Maulers' decision to release her doesn't look so puzzling anymore?
Round 3:
Jeanette is a little upset she can't cash in with a proper knockdown here and loses her supreme execution when she gets wobbles to her heels following a nasty gut shot from the embattled Brit. Alas Berrabah doesn't apply enough pressure thereafter and allows the German to walk back into mid-range to gather her thoughts. Both singers circle around each other while only teasing the offensive ideas during the second minute before Biedermann finally blinks again and jumps into a jabbing storm aimed at trapping the younger opponent along the ropes. Amelle does well to show some nifty footwork as she escapes the rush and blasts the German with a cross hook on the nose before rallying downstairs to shut her rival down. Huh! A big shot almost catches Jeanette on the groin - and it sure looked like this from the Lioness corner - but the ref lets the action play out so Amelle actually finds another quick series that punishes the blonde's ribcage before the clock expires.
Round 4:
Amelle looks more agile now and avoids the initial jabbing approach from her opponent; Jeanette becomes too focused on the head-hunting pursuit and gets picked off repeatedly down the stretch which meets a loud response from the Wembley crowd. The jabbing action increases as both women tangle in close range but it's the quick switch to the body that allows Biedermann to regain control and she nails the brunette on the navel a couple of times before adding a proper hook on the liver area... Ai, Amelle! The ex-Sugababes singer gets caught out and bends awkwardly to the side while Jeanette rips a left hook over the top and DRILLS her on the nose TO SEND HER DOWN ONTO HER BACKSIDE a split second later. Booyah! Most of the fans didn't see THAT coming and Berrabah looks as shocked as anyone when she gets up at seven and checks her nose for structural damage. Meanwhile Jeanette wants to rip her to shreds now and jumps into a hectic jabbing attack that drives the younger singer back to the ropes in no time. Amelle can't shake off the knockdown jibe at all and gets blasted from both flanks to bellow out behind a tight earmuff and only the bell comes to her rescue when the blonde turned her into a punchbag during the final seconds of this round.
Round 5:
Jeanette mounts a quick-fire assault and dumps the ailing Amelle on her heels; this is a shocking departure for the Brit's elite plans as she gets picked off repeatedly up the middle and sinks on jelly knees with a loud whimper which only fuels the German's production. Biedermann splits the high guard and when Amelle trips over her own feet while trying to bolt for safety, she gets WHACKED with another left/right combo on the nose that wobbles her into a coup de grace uppercut on the jaw! DOWN GOES BERRABAH tumbling onto the canvas with eyes closed and she remains spread eagle down there until the count passes her by! It's an upset, folks! KO5 Jeanette Biedermann!!!
AFTER: The victorious blonde can barely hold back her emotions as she twerks over the fallen brunette who only mumbles her official departure from the elite flyweight group. That unified divisional title clash appears to be the high-water mark on Amelle's resume and the brutal free agency reality should only make the matters worse. Meanwhile one simply can't put Biedermann away, she's lost some mercenary match-ups in the Far East and serves as the guinea pig for any aspiring upstars but she can still get it done against the odds like the Wembley crowd witnessed tonight. She will probably outlast Emma Bunton on the Lioness Club roster and that's a fact barely anyone saw coming when the stable had been formed in 2011. This 37-year old cougar can still roar herself into the BBU spotlight!
Final result: Jeanette Biedermann def. Amelle Berrabah KO5.
