BBU TV's lead reporter calls from the Cardiff HQ:
Hello and a very warm welcome to our special Friday night show where we review the final standings of the Welterweight Contenders Six tournament that concluded just a couple of days ago!
In case you've missed it - and shame on you if you did - let me remind you that Bo Krsmanovic has secured a shot at Joan Smalls' 130+ lbs title!
Now, let's review how all six proud combatants performed over the last five months. These opinions are strictly subjective and will not be altered!
THE WINNER: BO KRSMANOVIC (5-0)
This one is pretty obvious. Bo had a huge experience advantage thanks to her FCBA career even though those results back in America are mixed to say the very least. The combined managerial support of Pretty Little Punchers & VIXENs did it's part too and helped our Serbian stunner to breeze through the opposition. She's ranked above current welter champion Joan Smalls on the Real View's P4P list already and we have a rare situation where a challenger is actually favored to win the divisional straps. Watch out for Bojana since she's going nowhere, folks! I pick her to beat Smalls too!
THE LOSER: JOURDAN DUNN (0-5)
Whenever there's a winner, there's a loser. Jourdan lost to Joan Smalls in the vacant welter title revival clash back in January 2018 and she's finished bottom of the ranks in the contenders' tournament now which sadly removes her from the pure elite of the division. She has to soak up a similar fate to Stephanie Davis from the flyweight event. A hot pick for success goes 0-5 with her elite plans in total rebuild mode! Now that Gemma Atkinson is back in BBU, Jourdan might not even be the best welter in her own stable. Call it a double loss then!
THE ETERNAL BRIDE: MELISSA SATTA (2-3)
The Boston-born Italian-American fells to stablemate Petra Nemcova in the original #1 contenders' bout back in March 2018 but I really thought she will finish with a 4-1 record at the very least here if not win the whole thing. Not to be, folks! Melissa is a freakish power-hitter who can turn anyone's lights out but maybe her tactical approach needs to change. She get carried away too often and shows too much emotion in the ring which hampers her performance in clutch moments. She might be the best girl who's never destined to win the welter title and serve as the ultimate elite test for all ye champinship hopefuls!
THE JUG-SLUGGER: ALICE GOODWIN (4-1)
Alice had all the tools available to steal this event outright including the support of the enigmantic albeit very loud Chimera stable. The Stoke WAG remains one of the top picks to win a JMDD title one day as well and confirmed her elite BBU status by losing only to Bo Krsmanovic. That's more than could have been expected from a ton of fellow glamour models! I'd really like to see Alice clash with former title challenger Vogue Williams sooner rather than later next!
THE UNKNOWN: DOUZTEN KROES (3-2)
Doutzen is a former BBU lightweight champion who enjoyed a semi-successful FCBA tenure before trying to become a dual-champion upon her return to Europe. I just didn't see her beating the likes of Goodwin and her thumping of Satta was a mild surprise in Week 3! She finished with a respectable record but not exactly thrilling when you consider she was the top "big girl" in BBU back in 2015-2016. One can only wonder what her imminient plans are? She's still got takers on the American market so she can always cash it out there but Romee Strijd appears to be the top Dutch welter prospect from now on with Doutzen's career in potential decline?
THE PROSPECT: CAROLINE AUSTIN (1-4)
The largely unknown Australian model was a surprise entry into this event but since Lioness Club declined to send aging stars Sophie Howard & Alex Curran, she basically competed with fellow free agent Vogue Williams for the last spot. Vogue took the easy route and accepted Joan Smalls' title challenge in the so-called meantime so Caroline battled it out for the Oz pride with predictable results. Beating Jourdan Dunn saved her from the wooden spoon trophy but she faces a real battle just to stay afloat of the chasing pack with plenty of Australian welters floating around in pursuit of Erika Heynatz-like career (she of 10 successful divisional title defenses - still standing BBU record). Caroline is a hot prospect with a huge upside but she needs to score some wins before we call her the real deal!
Denise's final performance grades (based on expectations).
Krsmanovic: A
Goodwin: A
Austin: B
Kroes: B-
Satta: C
Dunn: C
Okay, that's my review all done and dusted! I hope you've enjoyed the show! Please check back when our Real View friends review the remaining action from this week on the weekly Sunday show!
