Intro:
A battle of Japan vs China here, two evenly matched records between Jun Natsukawa and Ziyi Zhang, who will come out on top here in Lumpinee Boxing Stadium in Thailand?
The build up saw both women stick mainly to their home nations media stations, plenty of words exchanged about why they would win, Jun claiming Ziyi was washed up, while Ziyi claimed Jun was simply a no name she was gracing to allow into her ring.
Before the fight Anna Woolhouse with help from a translator went to each fighters locker room to get a word from the fighters, first heading into the Front Street Japan stable to find coach Kei Mizutani massaging her fighters shoulder, it is their manager Hamada who speaks to Anna.
Telling the interviewer "that bytch Ziyi can talk all she wants about allowing Jun into her ring, we all know Ziyi is a relic of bad movies, Jun is going to send her packing back to the FCBA" a stern look on the face of Hamada as she looks at her fighter, as if to tell her don't make me be a liar for what I just said.
When asked about Jun's future in the BBU, Hamada replies "wait and see how well she does tonight, then you'll see how far she can she can go" Anna realising maybe retreating is the best policy as Hamada clearly didn't want her fighter disturbed.
So Anna tries her luck in Ziyi's locker room, with Ziyi shadow boxing in the center of the room, she stops a moment to nod at Anna but then gets back to warming up.
Ziyi's coach tells Anna "Ziyi as you see is ready for this fight, Jun doesn't scare her one bit, this is simply a stay busy fight for our fighter before she looks to get back on the road to success, too long she has been kept back by these Hollywood women" the Chinese actress nods at that.
With Anna realising she isn't going to get much more, simply thanking the coach for their time before wishing Ziyi luck, which gets a smirk from the fighter.
Fighting time, out comes Jun first with Kei beside her, Hamada is in the front row watching this as her fighter heads down the aisle towards the ring, a stoic look on the face of Jun as her supporters chant her name.
Climbing into the ring, Jun bows to each side before jogging to her corner, she is wearing a white sports bra with red trim, matching trunks and shoes, red gloves, while her hair is tied back into a braid.
Now out comes Ziyi with her coach, her eyes are firmly on the ring as her supporters are now in full voice, Ziyi bangs her gloves together before heading up the ring steps to the ring apron.
She climbs through the ropes into her corner, wearing a red sports bra with gold trim, matching trunks and shoes, red gloves with gold thumbs, her hair is also in a braid as she stretches.
Waved to the ring center by the referee, the fighters stare hard into each others eyes, the height difference on show as Ziyi looks down on Jun, who shows no fear for her taller opponent.
Told to touch gloves, they slam theirs into their opponent's gloves, jogging back to their corners ready to start 10 rounds of flyweight action.
Round 1:
"Ding" coming out to the center of the ring, they trade probing punches to start, circling around each other as they slam punches into the others cheeks.
Jun moves to the inside after parrying a straight, landing two punches to the body before she gets clipped across the top of her head, separating the two fighters.
The Japanese fighter pushing the pace, pressing back Zhang to the outside of the ring, especially working the body of Ziyi to keep her on the back foot.
But as she gets Ziyi near the ropes, Jun gets caught with a right cross to her cheek, a double jab knocks back Natsukawa to the center.
Both women let their hands go as they head into the final minute of the round, trading punches into cheeks to mark them up, Jun slips a straight late on to bang in an uppercut to the body, an overhand left to the cheek of Zhang to turn her head.
The round ends with Hamada nodding her approval at the start Jun has made, Ziyi's coach telling her she needs to step it up or she'll be bullied back.
Round 2:
Coming back out to resume fighting, the tense looks on the fighters faces tells how important a win is for them, landing more punches as they open up more.
Ziyi is starting to double up her jab, snapping the head of her opponent as she moves more to the center of the ring, forcing Jun towards the ropes.
She misses with a straight and Jun is quick to dip down so she can close the gap, slamming hooks into the body of Ziyi, pushing her back as her head is under the chin of the taller fighter.
Who nudges back Natsukawa to open up space, landing two cross punches to the cheeks of the Japanese fighter, beginning to drive back as she forces Jun behind her guard.
With the final moments seeing Jun slipping a right to counter with a right cross to the jaw of the actress, the bell rings with both women staring holes through their opponent before turning to their corners.
Round 3:
Circling and trading stiff punches to the others faces, reddening cheeks starting to form, the fighters trying to press their opponents with their forearms.
Dipping under a left hook, Jun bangs in two rights to the body before landing an overhand left, knocking back the Chinese fighter to her heels as she presses her back towards a corner.
Banging in hooks as she tries to knock the head off of Ziyi, who pulls Jun into a clinch, both glistening fighters trying to overpower each other, the referee needing to step in to pull the fighters apart.
Jun tries to keep in the face of Zhang, she eats a straight onto the mouth, a left cross follows as back comes Ziyi on the front foot, both fighters trading at range but the longer reach of the actress is allowing her to land the cleaner punches.
The final twenty seconds sees Jun be pressed to the ropes, covering up as Ziyi throws a flurry towards her head, most hit the gloves of Natsukawa till the bell rings to end the round.
A round of two rounds as Jun started strong but Ziyi came on strong at the end, Kei is yelling at Jun to find an extra gear as Hamada shakes her head.
Round 4:
Coming out more aggressively, Jun is looking to take the fight to Ziyi, both trading at midrange as sweat comes off their heads while they land some stiff two or three punch combinations.
A missed right by Jun though leaves her open to a left across her face, a straight smacks her in her left eye to make matters worse as she backs off to reset.
Not finding much respite as Ziyi comes after her a right comes around the guard of Jun and opens up a cut above her brow, making her cry out as a hint of worry shows across the face of the Front Street Japan fighter.
Who is trying to shield it more, Ziyi not rushing her attacks, looking for holes to exploit in the guard of Jun, with groans escaping the lips of Natsukawa as she is herded near the ropes.
Desperation sets in when Jun lunges with a right hook that Ziyi sees with ease, a straight instead bangs back the head of Jun to the delight of the actresses coach.
It is a dominant round for Ziyi as Jun has to clinch to slow down the assault, that cut isn't looking good as blood drips onto the left shoulder of Zhang.
After they are split apart, Jun does manage to land a nice right cross, a right into the left eye of Jun again stops her rhythm just before the round comes to an end.
The Front Street Japan corner has its work cut out for it, Kei with the watchful eye of the ringside doctor patches up the cut, Jun wincing as it is being worked on.
Round 5:
After checks by the ringside doctor, Jun is given the OK to continue, though she is keeping her left close to that cut, taking away one weapon from her arsenal as they begin.
Gamely Jun is trying to give Ziyi some problems with her right, soon enough though a straight into her mouth, followed by a left hook to the jaw seems to hurt Jun.
More punches start to come through the guard, leading to that cut being reopened by Ziyi, who is smiling as she cruelly bashes Jun across her face.
In a last ditch attempted to fight back, Jun throws an uppercut, there isn't much behind it though as Ziyi steps back and smacks a right across the face, THE LEFT HOOK TO THE CHIN OF JUN SENDS HER DOWN TO HER SIDE!
The Chinese fans all applaud as Ziyi raises her left fist into the air while heading to the neutral corner, 1...2...3.. Jun spits her gumshield out as she lays spread eagle, 4...5...6.. Her left eye looks to be shutting to make things look more gruesome for her, 7...8...9...10 as Natsukawa is counted out!
Winner Ziyi Zhang KO Round 5
After:
Ziyi turns to her fans and looks at her left fist before smiling to them, they chant her name as she gets another impressive win to her name, though Jun gave her several headaches though this fight.
The winner heads over to Jun who is being helped to sit up by Kei, Ziyi heard telling the coach "I hope you have better fighters then this bytch or you'll be out of business" laughing as she sees Kei's face blush red with rage.
Only Hamada stepping into the ring taking her attention seems to stop her slapping Ziyi, Kei apologizing for her trainees failure, Hamada just tells Kei "bring her with you" getting a nod from the coach.
Who after putting a towel with ice in it on the cut and swollen eye of Jun, helps her up so they can leave the ring, trailing behind the upset Hamada, who looks like she'll give her full opinion on this fight in the locker room.
Back in the ring Ziyi has her gloves taken off, the actress smiles as while her cheeks are still reddened from Jun's fists, she is ecstatic to be getting her hand raised in victory again by the referee.
Blowing kisses to her fans, Ziyi goes on a lao of honour, her fans applauding her and hoping she can get back into the ring more then once every few years.
Leaving the ring, Ziyi will be hoping herself that can happen, whether it is true that the Hollywood elite have kept her getting more pro fights, Ziyi definitely can catch the eyes with her looks and skills still.
