BBU TV's Kate Abdo reviews the second event under the "Team Canada vs The Rest Of The World" banner which took place in Montreal over the weekend!
KARINE VANASSE / HEIDA REED
Well, I really thought Heida can silence the local crowd against a somewhat rusty looking Karine. But the home crowd mojo enabled Karine to defy the odds and secure a premature stoppage. Hell, if this fight was held outside of Canada, Heida would have been able to continue and probably outlast Vanasse for victory. She looked really good versus Tomlinson and deserves more luck in future bouts! I hope she returns to the ring as quickly as possible while Karine, well, she might be limited to Canadian boxing scene only after this questionable victory! However a rematch between these two is a good idea and we might well see the first ever BBU event staged in Iceland of all places! Now that would be something!
ERICA CERRA / SARA CARBONERO
This was probably the Fight Of The Night with two women matched very closely despite Erica's former championship glory. Sara can be as mean as Ivana Baquero and lead the Spanish Armada into BBU stardom - if being married to Iker Casillas isn't good enough already! Sara did what Heida Reed couldn't and outlasted the dangerous floater - beating the count in the proccess too. These kind of wins are character-building and much better for one's prospects than actually one-sided beatdowns. Erica should stay active and provide a classic benchmark test for any contender hopeful but I doubt she'll remain Team Canada's Alpha fighter going forward!
ONA GRAUER / PIA MILLER
The locals really pushed their luck with this one and it backfired into Ona Grauer's face like a classic Latin storm! Pia Miller is not to be messed with ever since she signed with the Sirens! She has plans to enter the American scene too and it was always a struggle to see Grauer making this one competitive. A genuine blow-out, a Beatdown Of The Night, you name it! I have no idea what was Amanda Tapping thinking when she accepted this match-up! Katie Price would be proud of such a mismatch!
ELYSE LEVESQUE / FEDERICA NARGI
OK, so Elyse finally gets her BBU debut after being rumoured to enter the league for the best part of the last five years. This time the match-making worked wonders for coach Tapping as Nargi is another of these hot-blooded brunettes who can deliver a beating but her own debut vs Melissa Satta indicated she can strruggle when getting thumped straight in her face! Elyse took a while to get going but eventually outworked the sexy Italian and deserves full credit for doing so! However she might wanna stay away from the likes of Elisabetta Gregoraci for now! She needs another test or two to see how she performs against better opposition.
KAREN CLICHE / TONI GARRN
Karen was viewed as the primary welterweight under the old Team Canada management but several years has passed and now she' reduced into a solid punchbag more than anything else. Toni is a new addition to the BBU and remains a mystery. Yeah, she blasted out poor Karen to the point her camp had to throw in the towel but she'd be best advised to focus on some of the younger talents when she returns to Europe. I bet Sarah Brandner didn't really enjoy this attempt to steal her German welterweight thunder! Whatever the case, Toni will find plenty of work given her looks while Karen might well indeed turn her attention to Eliza Du Toit who remains one of the most vulnerable big girls around BBU!
ALAINA HUFFMAN / GAL GADOT
This fight probably marks the end of Alaina's contender status among the BBU lightweights. She's 36 and not getting any younger while Gal - who remains on the slender side of the ball - mercilessly exposed her in front of the home crowd. Alaina was once on the verge of the lightweight title glory but she should focus on supporting Elyse Levesque's bid now and well, I just don't see her shaking off this defeat anytime soon! She's basically a mental wreck now! Meanwhile Gal received plenty of heat when she was awarded a lightweight title opportunity back in the USA but she's got nothing to be ashamed of here in Europe... well, Canada to be technically correct! I hope we enjoy seeing more of her in the future but it remains questionable since I can imagine Gadot's FCBA prospects aren't all that over just yet! Heck, Pia Miller vs Gal Gadot would be one funny match-up and perhaps they did clash horns backstage huh? Can anyone confirm this?
