Harry Keegan looked around his gym, just twenty four hours ago it was packed with his girls, their spouses and some select friends.
Some of the sights last night were hard for him to believe, the biggest shock was seeing Maria Ozawa and Emily Attack, two mortal enemies who'd created an unease ceasefire he felt, let their hair down together and seemed at ease with each other, even going as far as dancing together.
He could see some bottles that were full of champagne on the floor, he laughed as he remembered Denise Van Outen and Kirsty Gallacher had turned up, Denise not believing the drinking stories of his assistant manager Melanie Sykes, took her on in a drinking contest.
It ended with the blonde flat out drunk on the ring canvas, as only his girls could think that a drinking contest should take place in a boxing ring with a table still standing in the middle of it right now from said contest.
A noise behind him startled him as he had told the girls to have the day off but expected them at 8am the next day to go to a boot camp for the day to start working off the Christmas turkeys they had.
He smiled as he saw Melanie with a sunglasses on but looking better than Denise did, "so you are fit enough after the what was it? 15 rounds of drinks you and Denise had" says Harry in a jokingly way.
Mel smirked as her head turned to the ring, "it was quite the contest, I'll give Denise that" as she raised her arms in the air as if she'd won a world title.
Harry shook his head with a wide grin on his face as he replied "I saw the look in both your eyes, I thought the table was going to be turned over and you and Denise were going to wrestle in alcohol"
"Me and Denise wouldn't do that" quickly replied Mel, before she adds "well not sober" and winks as she hugs Harry and kisses his cheek, with the middle aged manager blushing slightly.
He quickly remembers himself and asks Melanie "so why did you come in? You could have had the day off with the rest of the girls"
"Charming Harry, I was expecting a thank you for coming in on your day off" says Mel with a pout of her beautiful face.
Harry quickly digs himself out the hole by saying "hey you always make the day special, especially some of the days of bickering in here" Melanie smiles in reply, thinking of the classic Emily v Maria sparring matches and fight on the mats, Maisie Williams and Ivana Baquero having heated discussions over a certain Jenna Louise Coleman come to mind.
"You forgot didn't you?" Says Mel as she laughs and Harry remembers that they are doing evaluations of the fighters.
"Oh how could I forget that, I am honestly happy to do that myself" says Harry till Melanie puts her fingers on his lips.
She tells him "I am not going to argue with you, just wait till I get the notes out, we can do the fighters individual ones later, just tell me how you felt we did OK?"
Harry nods and says to Mel "well what a year we've had, I mean we had a champion in Taryn a few months after I took over in the FCBA JMD division"
"I was so proud of her, I've known Taryn had it in her to become a champ, it was just when she got the chance, she has you to thank for that" replies Mel as Harry smiles back at her.
"Monika nearly did it as well, sadly she didn't have enough on the night, that is on us, as I think she can win the big one sooner or later" comments Harry as he looks over the pictures of his fighters on the wall nearest his office.
Mel puts her right hand on his shoulder as she looks and replies "well we have a strong Lightweight division, in fact; they are probably our strongest part of our stable"
"Agreed" answers Harry, "if Alessandra can get the big wins, then maybe she can earn a shot in the FCBA, I can see next year being a good year for her" Melanie smiles as she sees her picture still on the wall.
"Can I put that on my office wall?" As she points at the picture and Harry smiles as he answers "of course babe, you have been such a good friend this past year and it was so sad to watch you retire from the ring, I wish we had met years ago, you'd have been my number one fighter I bet"
"Oh stop you charmer" replies Melanie as she punches Harry's arm and they laugh together like old friends.
"I wish Michelle had won before New Years, she looked depressed, after such a good year, seeing Gemma Atkinson pick up the welterweight title not long after must hurt even worse" says Harry, thinking of Michelle Ryan's loss to then champion Kate Upton just several days ago.
Melanie quickly replies "she's head strong, give her a little time, then push on with her, she just needs some space and if she needs to vent her frustrations, I can still spar with her"
Harry looks at Melanie before he says "I will, you know her so much better than me, God even in a year I feel like I am just learning these girls, seeing how they cope under really adversity"
Melanie shakes her head, then says "you know how to get these girls where they need to be, I mean people don't see you train them like I do, but I know how they think and that's what makes us a super team"
Smiling, Harry looks over the pictures and asks "How many of these girls can you honestly see becoming a champion next year?"
"Well as you said, Alessandra could do it, but Ivana Baquero and Poppy Drayton have to be our number one picks if we are totally honest, while Maria Ozawa and Emily Atack need to wake up from their stupid arguments, for the record it appears they have" answers Mel as truthfully as she can.
Harry hugs Melanie and says "we better go do the paperwork then, if you feel ill at any point" Mel interrupts by saying "if I feel bad, I'll be rushing home"
Smiling, Harry opens the door for Melanie and says "I hope the next 12 months are as fun as last year was" before they shut the door behind them and got down to work.
