BBU Lightweight Title
Ch Miranda Kerr vs Ann-Kathrin Brommel
(Downunder Boxing vs Black Eagle Boxing)
(12-1, 11 KO vs 8-7, 7 KO)
Results: Lookout!; Story: Vassago
BEFORE: Supermodel Miranda Kerr remains so busy all across the world this is only her first BBU Lightweight title defense in the last nine months but one that Ann-Kathrin Brommel really earned the hard way. She took a decision over former champion Sayuki Matsumoto and knocked out the hard-hitting Belen Rodriguez to secure this golden opportunity to become the first titleholder in Black Eagle Boxing's five year history. The Gina Wild-led stable has taken its share of lumps over the years but with Sophia Thomalla also making headlines down at bantam it appears the former AV star has finally figured out this management thing after all.
Both women keep it strictly business during the introductions, no usual trash-talk between the two but Ann-Kathrin's stare is truly lethal and BBU TV's Denise van Outen claims it's visible how bad the German model wants to win this one!
Miranda Kerr wears a pink bikini set & silver gloves. Long light brown hair tied in a curled ponytail. Ann-Kathrin Brommel wears a white bikini set & red gloves. Long dark blonde hair tied in a curled ponytail. The fight is scheduled for ten rounds in the lightweight division.
Miranda gets into the jabbing action early on and pancakes the blonde up the middle which gives the challenge zero room to stretch her elbows. The uptempo swings get the job done and send Brommel into a hectic retreat once the older blonde piles through with more leather and outworks the blonde in heads up exchange. Ann-Kathrin tries to neutralize the slugging attacks in mid-range but Miranda stays on the drill and whacks her over the top anyway to drop the German back onto the ropes where she bulldozes into her exposed midsection as well. Ugh! Ann-Kathrin bellows out behind a tight earmuff and simply cannot shake off the Aussie charge that allows Kerr to whitewash the opening round with more slugging delivery in the closing seconds. Huh! That was a champion making a proper statement straight off the bat.
Ann-Kathrin finds her zone when she pounds away to Miranda's body early in the second and matches her execution before a looping cross nails the champion on the lips and wobbles her backwards. The blonde stuffs her with a belting double on the liver area and proceeds to shut her along the ropes with a speedy series downstairs Kerr is unable to neutralize. Brommel can finally unload the slugging pounce and piles more leather up the middle with Miranda covering her off at first before a scything cross finds the chin and drops her into wholesale earmuff. All Brommel in the final minute as she gashes the subdued Aussie from the inside and tries to split her mitts again, she connects with a couple of nasty uppercuts and shouts back at the stunned champion at the bell to indicate she's come her to wrestle the belt off her hips!
More of the same in the third, Ann-Kathrin secures the promising connection to the body that visibly upsets the Aussie model who misfires with her counters over the top and has to grind her way back into a jabbing contention. However the blonde piles more misery up the middle and reels the champion butt-in-ropes come the second minute anyway. Huh! Eagles coach Gina Wild gets vocal in the corner as she urges Ann-Kathrin to slam more menace into the brunette's body! The slugging delivery does the trick and keeps Kerr shut down behind a tight earmuff. A late series from behind the guard does nothing to throw the German off her stance and she picks the champion from both flanks flushing her on the jaw with a smooth uppercut double right at the bell.
Another prolific bounce from the German allows her to send the Aussie dancing around on her toes in pure avoidance but she fails to carry through with the hooking double and wobbles forward to meet a crushing uppercut on the rebound. Miranda slams the blonde on the chin and stuffs the challenger with a booming right hand on the ear that drops Brommel into immediate spasms. Uh-oh! Ann-Kathrin grinds to a complete halt in the center of the ring and gets swarmed by Kerr's uptempo strikes thereafter! Miranda pounds the briefly stunned foe onto the ropes and racks up several shots over the top as the blonde's high guard collapses at the worst moment here. Gina Wild gets vocal in the Eagles corner but it's all Miranda in the closing stretch as she bangs away in fury and slams the blonde's lips into a swollen mess come the bell! Ugh! The champion is right back into this one while the scorecards are even at 38.
Brommel seeks a swarming breakthrough and squares up to the older model only to bounce off her forearms and before she can tackle her to the body again, Miranda SMOKES her with a brutal double on each temple! Oof! Ann-Kathrin slumps on her heels and can't raise her mitts fast enough as Kerr turns it from the hip and BLOWS her with a wicked right hand on the chin that FOLDS THE CHALLENGER'S HOPES ON THE SPOT!!! Down goes Brommel crashing on her knees while the Cardiff Arena errupts in joy. This was a monster punch to cap off the champion's surge and the German model simply rolls down on her side while shrieking her heart out. Uh-oh!!! This doesn't look good at all.... EIGHT... NINE... TEN... She is OUT!!! KO5 and STILL the BBU lightweight champion Miranda Kerr!!!
AFTER: Talk about a powerful knockout to extend the championship reign for one of BBU's most successful performers! Miranda might not strike an invincible pose anymore but she can still hold off these promising contenders in style. She truly smoked Ann-Kathrin there in the end and the Eagles entourage has a hard time getting their fighter back upright. This one will hurt in the morning! One must assume Sophia Thomalla provides the best opportunity to bring that elusive silverware to Germany after all.
Meanwhile Miranda tells BBU TV's Denise van Outen she'll be busy with Karolina Kurkova during the second round of the War In Heaven tournament next month and we might not see her defend the BBU belts until she's eliminated from that event. Can't argue with that match-making schedule indeed.
Official Result: Ch Miranda Kerr def. Ann-Kathrin Brommel KO5.
