Here we are in the Maldives for some beach boxing between two athletic women, former professional footballer and now TV host Alex Scott makes her celebrity boxing debut on the beach, Heather Watson meanwhile will be hoping to ruin her mood and get her own first win in her career.
Alex was seen as the best right back in the world in women's football in her pomp, now she seems to be all over TV with hosting "Football Focus" and her own gameshow "The Tournament" she has been training in the Maldives for the past month, Alex was interviewed by BBU TV's Kate Abdo before the bout.
When asked why she got into boxing, Alex tells Kate "I've been missing being competitive, being on TV is fun but I enjoy the buzz of going head to head with someone, having friends like Molly McCann going into MMA and Lauren Price winning Olympic gold, I thought I would give it a crack" smiling as Kate says that's some good role models to have.
The subject then turns to her opponent, Alex says "I respect Heather as an athlete, let's be honest though she can't fight, we've talked a bit trash over social media as she seems to think she is a fighter, I will enjoy showing her that she should stick to losing on the court" Alex winking at Kate, who smirks as she tries to stay neutral.
Heather meanwhile finished up her run on the beach, sitting down on the sand with Kate sitting beside her, she tells Kate "I am sick of people calling me a loser, Alex has been trying to make out that she is some tough bytch growing up on London streets, who the hell cares, I have actually tried boxing and while I haven't won yet, it isn't like I am miles away from winning" clenching her fists as she looks annoyed by the accusations thrown at her, probably more to do with her time on court in her day job then just in the boxing world.
When asked why she thinks she will beat Alex, Heather replies "I'll knock her f**king head off!" Making Kate look shocked by the normally soft spoken tennis star, fired up as Heather stands up and storms off the beach.
Fighting time, turns out the ring is actually on a floating platform in the water, the judges sitting on the beach with the commentary team of Denise Van Outen and Kate Abdo, the fighters are brought to the ring on separate boats, with Alex coming from the right side, Heather the left, with a large crowd on the beach watching the action whistling and cheering both beautiful women.
Stepping into the ring with eyes already locked in nasty stares, coaches standing outside the ring, Alex is wearing a black bikini with black gloves, her hair is braided as she paces in her corner, Heather wearing a white bikini with white gloves, hair tied back into a ponytail, she thuds her gloves together as she looks fired up.
The fighters come to the center of the ring, Heather staring down angrily at Alex, who is staring right back with a glare, the fighters are told to touch gloves, it certainly isn't a loving touch as a crack of leather rings out, returning to their corners getting their mouthpieces in, the referee signals for the bell to start 10 rounds of lightweight action.
Round 1:
"Ding!" Out come these toned athletes, trading stiff jabs as they try to work out their range, Alex getting knocked back as she dips her left a little low, Heather landing a double jab square into the smaller fighters face, pushing back Alex towards the outside part of the ring.
Alex shows some nifty movement to dodge when Heather swings in a right hook with real malice behind it, Alex moving to the left of her opponent, landing an overhand right to the side of Watson's head, then moves back towards the center of the ring, wanting to use Heather's angry it seems against her.
Both women now lashing out more combinations as they are warmed up, Heather landing a straight to the top of Alex's head, adding a left hook to turn the head of Scott, driving back Alex now the ropes as she now starts to unload on her, Alex tightening her guard as she is getting a taste of what real boxing is like after just sparring.
Going into the final forty seconds, Alex dips under a left cross, coming out her shell to dig in two hooks under the ribs of the tennis star, an uppercut just misses as Heather gets her head out the way, but it leads to both fighting in a phone booth, Heather finding that Alex is good on the inside with body shots digging in, the round ends with both women staring daggers then return to their stools, neither sitting on them as they stay standing.
Round 2:
Returning back to the middle, Alex starting to move her head more to dodge then sting the cheeks of Heather with single straight shots, Heather not landing as cleanly as they circle around, Heather gritting her mouthpiece as she looks a little frustrated.
Giving Alex a push, Heather gets a warning but it does its job of giving her room to work, spiking Alex to the face with a one-two combo, then when Alex tries to slip her way to the inside, she takes a straight into her chest to make her groan out as Heather retakes control of the action.
The Guernsey born star keeping Alex on the outside, Alex again going a little into her shell, thinking about how to tackle the taller woman, it's allowing Heather the freedom to work, with Alex mostly landing single shots to the abs of Heather when she comes out her guard, Heather throwing more as she is more open of the two.
Like the first round though as we head into the final minute Alex finds her opening, ducking a right hook, the football uses her fancy footwork to create an angle to land an overhand left to the chin of her opponent, stepping on the inside to work away, Heather needing to push back Alex, with both going toe to toe to the bell, holding back but looking ready to swing in a punch if not for the referee getting between them, again they stay standing in their corners, getting cleaned up by their coaches.
Round 3:
Coming out their corners trading more combinations, Alex looks to have been told to take the fight to Heather, she slips a straight and bangs in two left hooks under the ribs of Heather, who hisses before landing a left cross to the side of her opponent's head.
Alex is having more success, dodging more punches before landing stiff counter shots, an uppercut knocks back Heather, who finds herself pressed into a corner for the first time in the fight, Alex throwing hooks to the body of Watson, Heather dragging Alex into a clinch as both proud fighters try to wrestle each other around, referee needing to split them up.
At the half way stage of the round, Heather manages to get back on the front foot, digging in a double jab into the chest of Alex, followed by a right hook that sends a little sweat flying, Alex getting bullied onto the ropes by Heather, punches being traded as Alex isn't going to go into her shell so easily now.
Dipping under a left cross, Alex bangs in a right hook to the body, then lands an overhand left to the jaw of Watson, driving her back to the center of the ring, Heather covering up now more tightly, at the bell it's a good round for Alex, who gets a nod from her coach as she jogs to her corner, Heather tapping her cheeks with her gloves as she tells herself "come on!" Firing herself up.
Round 4:
Starting to make more mistakes now as she looks to land more power shots, Heather is finding herself being picked off by the older fighter, who is moving in and out of range more slickly as she is reading Heather's attacks better, popping the tennis player in her mouth more for her troubles.
But Heather hasn't given up the ghost so easily, catching Alex to her cheek with a left cross, a straight snaps back the TV presenters head, allowing Heather to back her up towards the ropes, again though Watson swings in a wild right hook that Alex sees coming, moving out the way to safety as she even taunts Heather to bring it.
Planting her feet more as she works on the inside, Alex is definitely growing in confident, getting clipped around her head, happy to do that so she can dig in short body shots, an uppercut catches Heather on her chin to snap her head back, with a double jab following up as Scott is really starting to pile the pressure on Watson.
Late in the round a short left shoves Alex back to range, a follow up right cross smacks her on the cheek, Heather getting some real momentum as they head into the final seconds of the round, several hooks being thrown in as Alex goes under cover behind her guard, when the bell rings Heather has to take small victories in this fight at the moment, her coach telling her to stop throwing wildly and use her jab, Alex getting told off her coach not to let Heather bully her.
Round 5:
Trading more harder shots at midrange now, Heather starting to double up her jab now but Alex slips a jab to hammer in an overhand left onto the chin of Heather, an uppercut follows to rock back the head of Watson, Alex putting the heat right back on her as she works back Heather around the outside part of the ring.
Heather is trying her best to fight her way out, Alex is like a little terrier, not letting go as she keeps coming hard at Heather, whose head is starting to get pinged around by overhand shots, Heather needing to hold onto Alex as she isn't enjoying being beaten around like this.
Split apart so they can fight again, Heather is boxing more on the back foot, Alex soon enough deflects a straight to ram in one of her own on the chin of Heather, AN OVERHAND LEFT CRACKS HEATHER ON THE JAW AND DOWN SHE GOES TO HER LEFT SIDE!
Oh dear this is looking like one of Heather's tennis matches as she looks ready for the exit, 1...2...3.. Heather turning to all fours, shaking her head as 4...5...6... She pushes to her knees, blinking to clear her vision, 7...8.. Heather showing fight is up to her feet, Alex smirking as she raises her gloves, Heather raises her own gloves, nodding she wants to fight on.
Final moments of the round sees Alex a little too keen to strike, getting caught coming in to her face, Heather just missing with her own right hook in a warning to Alex not to charge in so quickly on a wounded opponent, when the round comes to an end, Heather is the first to sit on her stool, getting wiped down as her coach tells her to keep her head in the game, Alex now with a little swelling under her right eye is being told to fight smart, nodding as she thuds her gloves together.
Round 6:
Back out they come with Heather wanting to keep Alex at bay with single punches, a missed straight by Heather leads to another uppercut landing flush, legs are starting to shake on Watson, WHO TAKES A LEFT/RIGHT HOOK COMBO ON THE CHIN, DOWN GOES HEATHER TO HER BACK!
Alex telling Heather "come on get up so I can knock you down again!" Getting a little too hyped up as the referee orders her to the neutral corner, 1...2...3...4... Instead Heather shields her eyes with her right glove, 5...6...7.. Gumshield hanging out her mouth as Heather doesn't seem to have the energy to get up, 8..9..10 referee doesn't belong it as they count Heather out!
Winner Alex Scott KO Round 6
After:
It was a slow start for Alex but once she found her footing, she looked great as Heather crumbled under pressure again, Alex marching over to Heather, rubbing in the victory by placing her right bare foot onto the chest of Heather, flexing both her arms with her beautiful smile after spitting her gumshield out.
"Anytime you want another beating Heather, just give me a call" says Alex, dropping her gloves on her before walking off to her corner, Heather needing help from her coach to get back to her stool as these two certainly won't be sharing a drink after this.
The winner getting a hug from her coach, though she does get warned not to let her competitive streak overtake her, joking "we want her to stay down remember" Alex laughing as she admits the occasion got to her, promising she won't be yelling that again with a wink.
Meanwhile Heather has a puffy right cheek, tears running down her eyes as it's another disappointment for her, confidence seems her biggest issue as she has the physical tools, just too much swinging and not aiming for targets is not helping her one bit.
She has to watch Alex getting her left hand raised in victory, Heather shaking her head annoyed it has turned out this way, needing help back on the boat as she is still rubbery legged from that knockout, she'll be hoping her luck changes for the Australian Open.
In the ring Alex tells the nearest camera "anyone wants to challenge me just give me a call, I am ready to take on everyone" raising her right fist with a big beaming smile, with her growing reputation on screen, she might get a few calls before too long.
For now Alex decides to swim back to shore, showing she still has a bit left in the gas tank even after the fight, giving out a few selfies on the beach, smiling as she definitely enjoyed her first step into the celebrity boxing lifestyle.
