Real View Intro: Hello ladies and gentlemen; when you say the saying something never disappoints. Well I can safely say this week that "the BBU never disappoints!" As we had a hell of a card in Bristol. Headlined with a historic crowning of the first BBU English Welterweight champion.
As always we recommend that if you haven't read the bouts from this past week that you go look them up. We will of course be spoiling them in our reviews. While also you will be robbing yourself the enjoyment of wonderfully written fights.
We will be discussing of course four bouts from that card. With one bout certainly being worthy of being acknowledged as a banger say we say.

Part 1: BBU English Welterweight title bout Bristol was where the historic first ever BBU English Welterweight championship took place. Leah Francis and Gemma Atkinson both got the caught to be the first title holder. So did the stunning Leah or the former FCBA welterweight champion Gemma lift up the title by the end of the night?
While both are outside of the world title picture right now. Both have been two of the best British (then just English) fighters in the division. It was fitting that both got this opportunity, especially the fact that Leah has been calling Gemma out for a bout these past few years. Whether it was the title why Gemma relented we can only guess.
The opening stanza set the tone for this contest. Both were landing solid blows as they were not going to hold back. Punches marked up faces as they stepped in to exchange. While Gemma had some great moments working at range, Leah flashed in some brutal hooks that caught Atkinson a little too flush for the former slap stars fans.
The pace didn't slow down as both women brought their A game to the party. Each time Gemma got some rhythm going as she looked the better boxer, Leah would come roaring back at her with her brawling style. It was clear this would come down to who wanted it more as they dug their toes into the canvas to exchange.
Round after round of high intensity fighting. The crowd was rightly on its feet for this brutal bout. Till they managed to get round ten with Gemma up on the scorecards after two knock-downs to Leah's one in the fight to that point. You couldn't take your eyes off the action though as Leah put down Gemma with a vicious volley of punches; gamely Gemma beat the count but was beaten senseless back down to the canvas in one of the most brutal beatings to end a fight I have seen.
This was a fight of the year contender. In fact I am penciling it in right now that it is going to make that shortlist and we are only in April! These two gladiators fought to the bitter end, if I am Josephine Skriver or Camille Kostek in the FCBA, I am preying these two don't come to my doorstep with this motivation!
There's an argument of maybe there should be a rematch with how back and forth the fight was. Though maybe neither will want to see the other for a little while so they can fully recover from this bout.

Part 2: Zara Holland Vs Katya Jones It is fair to say that Zara Holland is on a mission. The BBU flyweight title is back in her sights after losing it around two years ago. After her empathic comeback victory a few short weeks ago, she set her sights on the athletic dancer Katya Jones to make another statement to Jorgie Porter.
Katya of course was sure she'd upset the comeback train. Both women looked confident as they stood face to face listening to the referees instructions, fact both are toned and know how to fight certainly doesn't create any fear in them.
Smartly the dancer used her key weapons to frustrate Zara in the early part of the fight, using her reach and height, she peppered the face of Zara to create a nice mouse under the left eye of the former champion. Zara meanwhile showed flashes of what she could do on the inside. Problem was getting inside for sustained periods of time to work.
Still Zara didn't win a world title without being able to take a hit. She got put down in the fifth round but got up and kept at Katya, till her body shots started to take effect. When Katya wasn't up on her toes dancing around her opponent, she looked vulnerable to the body. Something Zara was more then happy to strike at.
By the eighth round Katya's early work wasn't paying the dividends she hoped for. Zara was crashing in more bigger punches as she went. Zara kept plugging away till Katya crashed down to the canvas, she could beat the count as she was simply beaten to a pulp by the end.
Zara got the win by showed the weaknesses that lost her the title in the first place. She tends to plant her feet a little too much, allowing fast opponents to tee off on her, look at what Diana Korkunova did to her. BBU Flyweight champion Jorgie Porter probably felt more reassured seeing that performance, still Zara is a very dangerous challenger to have calling you out with her toughness and raw power.

Part 3: Danielle Harold Vs Maisie Smith It's funny looking at Danielle's and Maisie's careers; you could argue that Danielle is a cautionary tale to Maisie. She was once seen as a bright prospect but not having the motivation when things started to go wrong detailed Danielle's career. Maisie is still of course only in her early twenties, still she hasn't been quite the same force looking to fight anyone and everyone as she was early last year before her first ever defeat.
Both these women stepped into the ring looking in good shape. Danielle used to be a stalemate to Maisie, there didn't seem much bad blood between them but plenty of pride was on the line. Especially for Danielle now she returned to the Beevers Babes stable fold.
Ding went the bell and ding! Danielle's head to be ringing by the first set of punches she took out the gate. As soon as the heavy hands of Smith started to land, Danielle was not keen to fight, going down for a count of seven and maybe only pride made her get up. Being eaten alive by the fists of Maisie as if she was being put through a wood chipper as Maisie pounded Danielle's lights out.
All it took was one round and I don't know if it proves that Maisie has her mojo back after a break or tells the story on Danielle's career. She looked gun-shy when Maisie first whacked her, no fight in her and you wonder what she offers if that is what she is going to do. While Maisie called out the unbeaten BBU bantamweight champion Sophia Thomalla in what would be a grudge fight considering it was Sophia who took Maisie's undefeated record.

Part 4: Michelle Keegan Vs Helen Flanagan To think it's seven years since former Coronation Street costars Michelle Keegan and Helen Flanagan shared a ring together. Michelle battered down Helen in a nasty eight round fight. Since then Helen has won the BBU bantamweight title in her career to show she can be an elite level fighter like the former flyweight champion Michelle has done.
It was clear by the nasty looks being exchanged that neither Michelle or Helen cared an inch for one another. After all for years both competed to be the remake face of Coronation Street. It has to be said that Michelle arguably won that argument when you look at the success each woman had off the famous cobbles, Helen returning to Coronation Street can be seen as defeat.
Michelle took the bull by the horns to start off the bout, landing several crisp straight punches into the face of her foe to keep her at arm's length. Helen gave her back a little taste of what she wanted to do with some hard hitting inside work to the body.
Round three though showed how dangerous Helen can be with a slight opening, she smacked Michelle with a hard left hook that caused swelling onto her cheek to the delight of her corner. Michelle looked a little more sheepish after that as she boxed more defensively to keep her opponent off her.
The problem for Helen was Michelle adapted her attack to get Helen around her body. After several more rounds of hare hitting action, Michelle was sore and Helen was panting. The seventh round was where the fight came to a head as another liver shot sent one fighter down. It turned out to be Helen as she cried out in pain, kicking the canvas with her right foot as she was counted out.
While at the moment neither is quite close to a world title fight, it's fights like these that are still on offer for them as they get to battle other big names and get big money for it. Will Helen want a third crack at Michelle? Well Luisa Zissman still is on the table and Michelle of course has the likes of Cheryl Cole, Samia Ghadie and Jenna Louise Coleman for possible money bouts.
This is all we have time for this week folks. Thank you so much to everyone who has taken the time to read these posts. We have to extend a thank you to Knowlesley for their amazing work on the bouts posted this week. We will be back next week for the next edition of the Real View.
