Sirens: Maiden Voyage card review
Wow, the BBU is on a roll with amazing fights and this card was no exception, so first we want to congratulate the Sirens management on this card being top quality, even if some of my comments might want him to step into a ring with me.
Now sadly we don't have room to do a full on Real View episode with this, tomorrows episode will be focusing on the BBU PPV from last Sunday, so this will be short reviews of each bouts, so let's get too it.
Petra Nemcova vs Laura Barriales
Well I predicted Petra would win and boy did she not disappoint, at first though it did look like she would with Laura surprisingly being elusive one minute, in her face the next.
The problem with unpredictable tactics is you don't know what you are going to do either, Laura couldn't decide on a way to win and she paid for it with power punches just eating away at the Spanish fighters resolve.
It turned into an ass kicking for Laura after that, she couldn't match power with the big Czech and she ate two uppercuts in round 5 to end her night flat out on the canvas.
Petra looks the real deal and it will be interesting to see where she slots in with the big fish of the welterweights, that seems to be where her natural size and power will thrive in our opinions.
Mathilde Goehler vs Ann-Katherin Brommel:
Again I was right here, I expected a tight fight, the brawling in round 1 showed how tight these two were going to be, pounding each other to what many pundits agreed was a hard fought stalemate!
Mathilde started to take control through part of round 2, controlling the action by being right in the face of the older fighter.
But to Ann-Katherin's credit, she came right back at her Danish opposition, leading in the slightly less experienced girl, then bashing her back with some vicious counters.
The fighting at the mid stage of the fight was scruffy compared to the rest of the contest, seeing the girls brawl in tight and push each other around.
But by round 6, Ann look worn out, getting out worked by a fitter fighter, it wouldn't last much longer, just 1 more round to be precise, Mathilde knocking down the German, then as she got up, just beating her to the ropes to finish her off once and for all.
Mathilde looks good, I'd suggest continuing to fight girls of this level as we've seen girls being thrown to the wolves by their managers all too often after showing some promise.
Hailey Clauson vs Zoe Hawkins
OK where did reporters get that I said Hailey was overmatched against Zoe? Look over my predictions and you'll find I said Hailey had in the past been overmatched, Zoe wasn't a tough fight though, if it was the Sirens manager quoting me wrong, well OK get the gloves seriously though these freelance reporters should do better work.
Oh the fight! Well could you call it one? Zoe holding a 1 and 0 record was a fallacy, she beat a good fighter in Sophie Howard with pure luck when we watch those tapes.
She's a plodding fighter with no real stamina and Hailey, who is the polar opposite finally got a win with a 2nd round knockout with a barrage of quick, powerful punches that the lackluster Zoe couldn't defend against.
This is the level that Hailey should have started with, hopefully she can be built up against another fighter the level of a Peta Todd or Abbey Clancy, girls who've taken more beatings in the ring then some people have had hot dinners.
But that is just our advice, the Sirens have their own style of management and while we don't manage, well some would say that's why we should keep our mouths shut.
Danielle Robertson vs Ming Xi
I had no clue on Ming's style, well she showed she can box but she doesn't like to be crowded in, that's free scouting for stables that don't own video.
On the fight, well it was a good fight between two girls learning their craft, Danielle tried to do what wise veterans do, crowd the plate and hope to rattle the rookie up.
That worked at first, till she clearly thought she'd done enough to try and pick her punches, ending with her getting clipped by frankly the better striker.
Not to say Ming had the power advantage, no that was Danielle's strength in this fight, by better striker I mean her punches when she flowed were fluid, not much effort to find a target, she just seemed honed in to open spaces.
While Danielle tried to be a sledgehammer in her own style, wide swinging hooks missing there target too many times.
But Ming would be punished for her own silly little mistakes, letting herself get caught as she lost some focus, the fight swung back into Danielle's hands as she powered her way back into it.
Though she would be put down to the shock of the crowd in round 6, more by a lucky punch then a serious knockout blow.
She'd pay Ming back straight away in the same round, Danielle beating Ming to the ropes when the referee stepped in, a bad call by mine and several pundits ringside, though my BBU TV friends seemed to disagree, telling me that Ming was getting too badly beaten, so the jury is wide open on this one.
For Danielle, she doesn't care of course, with the right work I honestly see her as a champion, again though she has to be led through the minefield safely and while that may upset her manager, she can't be thrown against anyone and expected to win.
though a rematch with Ming seems on the cards after this ending, we will look forward to whatever happens on this situation.
Main event: Diana Korkunova vs Danielle Sharp
For the record, while I loved this fight, I hated it at the same time, not that the quality was poor, far from it as this got deserved main event status, but we at the Real View loved meeting both girls and seeing one girl lose was going to be hard.
Diana dominant in the early going, her rapid speed is a sight to behold, she might be the quickest fighter with her footwork in all the BBU, though that normally means that she doesn't plant her feet to power punch, instead wearing her opponent down.
That succeed for mostly 4 rounds till something changed at first, unless you were in the ring you wouldn't see it, but as Danielle hit Diana low again, it became clear that the frustration for the page 3 girl had caused her to fight dirty.
Diana unwisely didn't take the full five minutes and her coach to be frank has to take some of the blame for not keeping her back till she was fully ready, though that's down to inexperience and this became a harsh lesson.
Without her speed, she was too slow to get out the way of a power puncher like Danielle and boy did Danielle knock out Diana, the stunning Russian got caught and dumped onto the canvas in a scary knockout.
Then after the knockout, Danielle was going to her JMD playbook with a jug smother that was interrupted by some of the Sirens rushing down to get involved.
Depending on your viewpoint, either it was good Diana was saved from embarrassment or you wanted to see some JMD action, for me I was happy as Diana didn't deserve that and I hope this was a one off from Danielle, she won our hearts with her down to earth nature.
Don't let yourself become a dirty, vengeful fighter Danielle, but clearly these two hate each other and judging by the action between the two stables (Sirens and Page 3's) maybe a stable war is coming?
OK we are going to be a broken record, but does the Sirens manager like his girls? Danielle Sharp was an unknown when this fight was arranged, when she won her debut by dominating performance, alarm bells should have rang, they clearly didn't and Diana got chopped down again.
This was the one result that I got wrong on the whole card, only because at the time I didn't know Danielle's power, I guessed it but didn't know it as fact.
Hopefully Diana learns from this and maybe her manager is giving her tough love, but he needs to be careful not to ruin her confidence.
