Part 4: An interview with Mel C (Chisholm)Tom: this week we are getting to speak to someone who was part of arguably the greatest girl band of all time. She was known to most as "Sporty Spice" but to us she is the wonderful Mel Chisholm.
(Melanie waves to the camera in her home gym as she wears a black sports bra and black shorts with white stripes down the sides)Melanie: thank you for having me on your show.
Tom: thank you for giving us the time to catch to us. You have always been known as the fittest of your Spice Girl friends. Even though you are let's say a few years older now, we have a picture of how physically impressive you are and how you keep fit in the summer.
Melanie: (chuckling before she replies) well that is the stuff I use to keep myself motivated during the times we actually have sun. I'd be out there in a bikini and punching that punch bag with just hand wraps on if I could most days to relieve stress and keep this impressive body as you say. (Winking to the camera.)
Tom: you certainly have an impressive physique and it should be said for our friends, you are actually undefeated in a BBU ring. You have beaten the likes of former bantamweight and JMD champion Charlotte Church, alongside beating Michelle Rodriguez.
Melanie: boy I remember that Michelle fight. We have both been ducked in our careers to be fair so it made sense we should see which of us is truly the toughest. While maybe I proved that, Michelle is a legit badarse. For nine rounds we beat each other and I am glad I forced the stoppage. She wouldn't go down for the count seemingly.
Also on Charlotte... Well look at how brilliant her career has been, while I will admit I am jealous she got more action and I seem to be just the woman people call along to spar with. Charlotte took her chances and I am proud I got to fight her in one of my best career performances I think.
Tom: I have to ask and I know it's probably one that bugs you. Why do you think that your career has always been stop/start?
Melanie: it is very annoying. I mean I am perfect at four wins and zero losses, I have never shied away from a fight if it comes my way. I guess it is two fold, I know I am not the most popular member of the Spice Girls. Emma of course is stunning and like my sibling, Geri had the sex appeal, Victoria the class and my fellow Mel was the one that you knew drama would follow. I was just the sporty one.
With that I am also strong and shown my toughness. That has intimidated fellow rivals clearly and here I am now. Still proud of myself but I do get annoyed when the BBU comes up and I am not given the respect I feel I deserve.
Tom: I am sorry you feel that way about the BBU. It should be said that with cougar and jaguar divisions being set up. Do you think you might have a chance at resuming your fighting career?
Mel: it gives me hope, I have never retired and while a bantamweight title is probably out the question now as I am not as fast as I was. I am willing to take on anyone either side of the pond. Wear a bikini, body paint or no gloves. I am always happy to be across the ring from someone who wants a crack at defeating me.
Ring rust shouldn't be too bad as I said, I get calls to spar with up and coming fighters. I do sometimes still spar with Geri and Emma for fun. So hey anyone wanna call me out you know where to find me.
Tom: so will you be doing anymore working out today?
Melanie: oh no I am thankfully done for the day. Sunday dinner for me and maybe a nap. I am getting old you know. (Laughs heartedly.)
Tom: thank you for your time Melanie. I hope you have had a wonderful time chatting to us.
Melanie: it was my pleasure. (Waving bye to the camera.)
