Part 4: an interview with Melinda MessengerTom: so I am pleased to say that I get to talk to the managers around the BBU. Maybe the most glamorous manager is my guest today as I am getting the chance to speak to This is Glamours manager, Melinda Messenger.
(Melinda is sitting on a stool in the studio wearing a red dress with matching heels. That vibrant smile on show with red lip stick.)Melinda: I am honoured to be here with you Tom. My stable has the day off so I have time to be here. (Waving to the camera)
Tom: well it has to be said before we discuss your stable. You were for some of our younger fans a great fighter in your own right. You are a former FCBA lightweight champion. We have a photo from one of your public training sessions.
Melinda: that was a few years ago haha. I had some great fights, my record wasn't brilliant so maybe I am not someone who should brag. I am happy with what I was able to do and being a trainer has been truly wonderful.
Tom: you have become a manager of champions. You rejuvenated the career of Kelly Brook, got a star like Bethany Lily April to a title and gave some nice prospects coming through. Do you feel your own glamour career helps you with the fighters you bring in?
Melinda: I do feel like I can relate to them but they have to deal with things like social media now. If I had an issue with a rival we would say it to each others faces at the weigh ins and get physical. Now they trash each other through their phones and have the fans call them everything under the sun. I don't know how much I'd have enjoyed that but hopefully I am a good person for them to come talk to.
Beyond that I simply take each person as they come to me, we discuss training and what options the fighters have. They are the stars and I simply do my best to give them the best chances to be the best they can be.
Tom: what's been your proudest moment as a manager?
Melinda: god that is tricky to answer. Seeing Kelly come back to the top after a quiet few years in her career was amazing. I am so proud of Bethany coming in as a rookie and several fights later becoming a champion. Beyond that I am proud of how the girls mostly play nice in the gym. That might seem a dumb thing to be proud of bit you have to understand, when you are the face of products and usually the center of attention, well you don't care for people trying to steal your thunder. For the most part our girls all get along and help each other out.
Tom: so what's your plans for the future? Any new fighters on the horizon?
Melinda: we are always on the hunt for new fighters but right now I don't have any signings incoming. What we are looking at is expanding to fights in the FCBA at times and hopefully bringing back a title to our stable. It's been too long since we had gold or a diamond title bra.
I will say that Bethany has a big fight in the FCBA coming up. Charlotte McKinney will be the test for Bethany under JMDD rules. We are confident Bethany will remain undefeated in the FCBA. So maybe we bring home a title from there or the BBU JMDD champion Hailey Clauson might look our way.
Tom: final question; any chance you will make a comeback in the jaguar division?
Melinda: haha! No thanks. I do sometimes do some technical sparring with the younger girls in my stable but while I could handle some of my old rivals, why risk my health? I am not the fighter I was even a few years ago.
So I will simply stick to bringing in the money, telling my fighters and coaches what they need to be doing and not taking any bumps. So unless the offer is worth the risk I won't be fighting. Thank you for believing I could fight again.
Tom: thank you for taking the time to come chat to us.
Melinda: thank you for having me. Please fans continue to support the This is Glamour stable. Next year I am sure will be our biggest year as a stable with us being back on top.
Tom: that's all the time we have folks. Thank you to Vassago for the bouts they wrote. Thank you as well to everyone who took the time to read these posts. We will be back next Sunday morning for the next edition of the Real View.
