Part 4: an interview with Yvonne StrahovskiTom: so guys and girls we have a very special guest on this week's show. We head down under to speak via video chat to the ACB lightweight champion Yvonne Strahovski!
(Yvonne appears on screen sitting on her sofa wearing seemingly just a white dressing gown and the ACB lightweight title with its green strap and gold face plate sitting to her right)Yvonne: hey Tom! It's great to speak to you, even if it is a little late here.
Tom: it's awesome to be able to speak to a legend and thank you so much for staying up to speak to us. Now I have to start by showing you and our audience a famous photo of you.
Of course that is from your time on the TV show "Chuck" that set your career into overdrive. How do you feel that photo and the episode it is from has a lot of fans.
Yvonne: haha. Well it was one of my favourite episodes I filmed, I trained so hard in the FCBA and the producers asked me if I'd like to do a muay Thai fighting part. I felt such a bad ass in that gear. Still I had Mary (Elizabeth Winstead) egging me on to fight her with our fists wrapped. I know she was joining but she shouldn't give me ideas like that. *Winking to the camera*
Tom: ok to boxing matters, what got you interested in celebrity boxing to begin with? I mean it has certainly panned out for you.
Yvonne: well you can certainly say that haha. It was simply something that interested me when I saw the likes of Charlize Theron doing it, along with the likes of Elle MacPherson. You have seen I like to be physical and I am as competitive as they come.
I have to thank the Lookout! Boxing stable and it's management so much. Without them giving me a shot I probably wouldn't be half the fighter I am. They have given me the confidence and worked with me to be the best me I can be.
Tom: I have to ask but what made you try for the ACB title, arguably you could have simply retired on everything you did in the FCBA. Instead you have come to the BBU for crossover events and now you hold the ACB lightweight title after defeating Holly Valance.
Yvonne: I felt I needed to win this title for myself. I would sometimes get a chance to go see the old AWUBA before it became the ACB, saw Dannii Minogue in wars. Watch McPherson batter lesser women to prove she is the "body" and other amazing Aussie fighters.
While I am proud of everything I have done around the world through the FCBA. I want to inspire the next generation of fighters here in Australia by showing my talents in my home country. I want to meet the best we have to offer in the ring.
Tom: you started your reign as champion a month ago by defeating former champion Poppy Montgomery into retirement. How did you feel about that?
Yvonne: I want to start by saying that I have the utmost respect for Poppy, I had no clue she'd retire and part of me is sad but it was her choice and you have to know when your time is up. I hope Poppy has fun now out of the ring.
But on the fight itself, Poppy certainly brought it to me. I knew she was still very fit. That's the type of fights I want going forwards. I want the former champions like Mallory (Jansen) and Miranda (Kerr), along with the new fighters coming through.
Tom: we have to wrap up soon sadly to say, thank you so much for this Yvonne.
Yvonne: no worries, I will be back in action in the ACB before too long. Let's keep making the ACB one of the premier fighting organisations once more.
Tom: that's all we have time for folks! Thank you so much to everyone who has taken the time to read these messages. We hope that you had fun and we will be back next Sunday morning for the next edition of the Real View.
