We are live at the Co-op Live arena in Manchester as two sports presenters battle it out. Debuting Anna Woolhouse steps into enemy territory as undefeated Kate Abdo returns home for this contest. Can Anna overcome a hostile crowd to defeat Kate or will Abdo make it two and zero in her career?
Before the contest both hyped up the fight on social media. Anna posted "can't wait to actually step foot in the ring. Kate Abdo you challenged me to a fight and while I might be friendly with you onscreen, in that ring I am going to beat your arse." Posting a picture that showed the work her training had.
Well Kate wasn't impressed as she responded "that's why I wanted to fight you so badly Anna. You think because you hit the weights at the gym you are a fighter. I told you to put up or shut up and well I can't wait to shut you up because this is what true hard work in this sport is." Showing a picture from her training.
Fight night! Understandably Anna comes out to mostly boos. She doesn't seem to care as she walks to the ring wearing a pink sports bra with white trim, matching trunks, shoes and gloves, hair tied into a ponytail. She steps into the ring tapping her cheeks to psyche herself up to prove she can fight.
Kate now walks to the ring to loud cheers. She is wearing a black sports bra with silver trim, matching trunks and shoes, silver coloured gloves, while her hair is braided. Kate climbs into the ring and hugs her coach before looking across the ring at Anna with a piercing stare.
Both women come to the middle of the ring for the referee to go through their instructions. At ringside is a special guest as fellow presenter Emma Paton is in the front row. She won her debut fight last week when she defeated Laura Woods. In the ring both women give a quick fist bump with their opponent before jogging to their corners. The bell ringing to start 10 rounds of bantamweight action.
Round 1:
"Ding!" Both circling using their jab to try to feel each other out. Stern looks being exchanged as they start to land with more venom as they edge nearer the end of the opening minute. Kate steps in with a left hook up top before a short right uppercut to the body to test those abs of Anna as the crowd cheer Kate on.
Maybe the setting is making Anna nervous as she gets knocked back with straight shots to her face. Kate buzzing with the support behind her as she lands several hooks around the guard of Woolhouse to knock her head around.
Firing back with less then a minute to go. Anna shows she won't be bullied that easily for long. She smacks Kate on her nose from the ropes with a straight. Both opening up more in the dying moments with flurries being exchanged. The round comes to an end with Kate's supporters cheering her on as she returns to her corner.
Round 2:
Out they come with more energy in the opening seconds as they try to push each other back. Clinching up at one point as they come in too close from trying to land hooks. Grappling till they are pushed apart by the referee. The Kate fans chanting her name as she hammers in a few more jabs to the face of Anna to delight them.
Ducking down under a straight, Anna comes back over the top with a sweeping left on the jaw of Kate to twist her head around. Anna driving forwards now with several hard shots smacking Abdo on her face. AN UPPERCUT SENDS KATE ONTO HER BACKSIDE TO BOOS!
Jogging to the neutral corner, Anna looks focused as she ignores all the noise around her. 1....2....3... Kate shakes her head to clear any fog around it. 4....5... She looks more annoyed then really hurt. 6....7... Getting up to beat the count, raising her fists up to show she can still fight.
Back they go with Kate jabbing more and trying to hold off the charge from Anna. Who is firing in body shots when she can't land over the top. The bell rings to end things with Anna jogging to her corner looking laser focused as she sits on her stool. Kate telling herself off when she sits down.
Round 3:
Jogging out to resume boxing. Anna digging in more punches around the body of her opponent to boos. Kate drilling in more jabs and straights to try to hold off the now more aggressive Anna. They exchange more in closer when Anna slips a straight to come inside to work.
Pressed to the ropes, Kate having to clinch after taking a few piston like shots to her abs. They are split apart after some wrestling. Resuming with Anna looking the more confident right now after that knockdown. The crowd isn't as loud as they see Kate covering up more being pushed around the outside part of the ring.
Less then thirty seconds to go. Kate pushes off Anna before rifling in a crisp jab/straight combo into her rivals face. Kate showing her fighting spirit now to force Anna back to the center of the ring. They exchange with piston like punches up until the round ends. Kate yelling "f**k sake! You are better then this!" Showing she wants this badly.
Round 4:
Kate starts to change up her tactics as she darts inside to work before moving back out to make Anna miss. The skirmishes look to be throwing Anna somewhat off her stride as the rookie is missing more and being punished by counter shots to her face.
Trying to force the issue more. Anna is getting caught to her face by Kate's straight shots. A double jab to the forehead of Anna opens her up to a short right hook on the jaw to send some sweat flying off her. Anna does get Kate more to the body when she ducks under a jab to close the distance but is held onto by Abdo to force the referee to get involved.
Resuming with Kate now doubling up her jab as she looks more confident. Anna tries to fire back with punches to the chest of Kate to make the older fighter grit her mouthpiece. They trade hard shots on the inside late in the round before the bell rings to end it. Kate taps her gloves together as Anna shakes her head to show her own frustration.
Round 5:
Out again stabbing punches into each others chests and faces. Anna can't quite pin down Kate now as Kate shows good footwork to dodge before landing counter shots. Anna suffering a bloody nose as some leaks from her left nostril. Kate seeing that is landing a few piston like shots on the nose to rile up Anna even more.
With Woolhouse swinging more and simply finding thin air as her temper is boiling up. A straight lands on her nose to make her cry out. A LEFT HOOK CLUBS HER ON THE EAR TO MAKE ANNA FALL TO HER LEFT KNEE!
Jogging over to the neutral corner, Kate takes a quick breath as she stands looking at her rival. 1....2.....3.....4... Anna shakes her head to clear it. Rubbing the blood from under her nose with her right glove. 5....6....7... Pushing to her feet, Anna raises her fists to show she is ok to continue.
Back at it they go with Anna now needing to show some fight to try to hold off Kate. Whose slipping punches and hammering her fists back into the body and face of Anna to make her cry out. The bell dings to end the round with Anna fighting back a few tears. Getting her nose cleaned up as she is asked if she wants to fight on, she nods that she does.
Round 6:
Sweat is starting to drip off both fighters foreheads as they come out to trade. Anna trying to protect her nose but Kate simply moves to the body of her foe to make her groan with each flush hit. Swinging back with her right to no avail, Anna's cheeks are flushed red as much from embarrassment it seems as anything else.
A straight catches Anna on her nose when she opens up to make her yelp. ANNA TURNS HER BACK AS SHE WAVES HER HANDS! REFEREE STEPS IN AND WAVES THE FIGHT OFF WITH ANNA GIVING UP THE GHOST HERE!
Winner Kate Abdo TKO Round 6
After:
Second fight of her career, second time Kate has made the referee step in to stop the fight. She heads over to Anna to check on her as Anna sheds a few tears. The Woolhouse camp in the ring to check on her too as she admits her nose feels like hell right now. Once in her corner Anna can be relieved it's not broken, though her grimacing as it's being cleaned up shows how sore it really is.
Kate meanwhile gets a hug from her coach, gloves taken off as she raises her arms in the air to be met by a loud cheer from her supporters. She blows kisses to the cameras and the crowd as she tells them all she is blessed to be from Manchester.
Walking over to Anna when she is going to leave the ring. Kate shows her class to raise the right arm of Anna for agreeing to fight her here. Anna thanks Kate for the gesture as they embrace to show the ill will they'd had over boxing has been put aside for now.
Stepping out the ring to head to the back. Anna at least knows now how tough boxing is. Will she be back in the ring? Time will tell of course, there are several presenters she could face like BBU TV's Denise Van Outen or former Sky Sports presenter Laura Woods.
In the ring Kate gets a loud cheer as her right arm is raised in the air. Her gaze though turns to a guest stepping into the ring. Emma Paton has left ringside and is now bare foot after losing her heels, standing in a black dress with hands on her hips.
Over comes Kate to go nose to nose with Emma. Both have a cheeky grin on their face as cameras capture the moment. Emma telling Kate when they step apart "you did great but when we fight I am taking you down." Making Kate laugh as she replies "we'll see. Beating Laura is impressive but I actually know what I am doing." As much as they are friendly, there's that competitive urge both have in spades.
Emma leaves the ring to give Kate her moment in the spotlight. Whenever that fight will take place it'll be interesting to see if the younger Emma can handle Kate's prowess inside the squared circle as someone's zero in the loss column with have to go.
While Kate does a lap of honour inside the ring while her name is chanted. Kate stepping out the ring to do some selfies with some people in the front row before she heads backstage now. Kate is beaming as this means so much to her to fight and win in her home city.
