Jourdan Dunn vs Martha Hunt
(Team Europe vs Team USA)
(7-1, 7 KO vs 1-2, 1 KO)
Results: Lookout!; Story: Vassago
BEFORE: The writing is on the wall for the American team which needs a Martha Hunt victory to extend their Ryder Cup hopes but given Jourdan Dunn's overall record, this seems like a genuine mission impossible according to BBU TV's Denise van Outen. On the other hand the US national pride is something that can NEVER be underestimated so coach Denise Lewis warns Jourdan to "watch out and don't take anything for granted".
Martha actually enjoys the bigger cheer from the audience during the introductions but perhaps the Yankees realize the entire Cup hinges on her performance while Jourdan simply eyeballs here in classic bytch stare fashion and refuses to touch gloves: "Let's get it on, slut!".
Jourdan Dunn wears a violet bikini set with silver trim and silver gloves. Long dark brown hair tied in a sleek ponytail. Martha Hunt wears a red bikini top, white panties and stars & stripes-themed gloves. Long blonde hair tied in a half-up ponytail. The fight is scheduled for ten rounds in the welterweight division.
Martha gets the early jump on the taller opponent and delivers a steady drive up the middle which glues Jourdan on her heels and allows the blonde to score more easy punches. This isn't what the Europeans looked for as a single punch can make all the difference in this division whie Martha rides the high confidence while aiming at Jourdan's head repeatedly. She escapes a sluggish response over the top and cracks a solid uppercut on the jaw before finally switching downstairs to connect with the midsection. Jourdan applies a clinching effort but gets bumped off and beaten for another quick uppercut which forces her into a defensive route thereafter. Martha can't quite close her down in mid-range but verbally taunts the retreating model and the look on Denise Lewis' face says it all at the bell.
Another aggressive jump from Hunt leaves the English model stuck on her heels and it's worrying how easily the blonde connects with the head shots here in the early stages. Jourdan devoured veteran Suranne Jones last time out but that was more like a gym sparring session compared to tonight's test and Hunt lets it all cash in upstairs in the second round rendering the six foot opponent into a complete standstill once she traps her along the ropes. Ugh! A couple of big punches crash into Dunn's chest as well and she can only clinch herself into safety which meets little support from the audience. However the US fans are getting loud here as Martha belts the cumbersome rival on the ribcage and runs away with another dominant performance.
Jourdan finally blocks off the initial jabbing sprint and tags the blonde's chin with a hooking double that allows her to settle in close range down the stretch. She owns the supreme reach but prefers to work from the inside and punish Martha's boobs in the process alas the American still seeks a proper haymaker blast and swings several times to skim off Dunn's temples. She fails to deliver that big punch though and gets reeled upon a steady midsection impact in the second minute which forces her into defensive circles afterwards. Jourdan seems happy to keep the blonde on her toes and lacks outright urgency but coach Lewis doesn't look so upset anymore with Hunt being neutralized following that huge opening spell.
Both girls seem to chase a proper one-punch finish here as Martha drops off the boil and allows Jourdan to swing her punches with more frequency than before. It's a dangerous plan but that supreme reach maybe begins to play on the American's mind as she struggles to connect with the counter-punching during the opening minute. She eventually reverts into that aggressive route but Dunn ups her drill and sucks the blonde into a cross hook double that splits the mitts and paves the way for a big strike on the chest. Ugh! Martha gets glued to the spot and has no time to react when a quick uppercut bangs her on the jaw. She wobbles forward and Dunn FINDS THE PILEDRIVER which smokes Hunt on the nose and sends her CRASHING DOWN on the canvas! Booyah! That's your welterweight power right there but Martha recovers from it anyway! Geez, that made Denise Lewis angry again! This could have been too much for Suranne Jones but Martha is back upright at seven and keeps the English model in check with a jabbing galore during the final stretch. Dunn gets a little careless as she pushes for the kill and eats unneccessary leather upstairs; she looks downright shocked that Martha recovered from that knockdown so quickly but it's suddenly advantage Team Europe!
Martha knows she'll have to fend off another aggresive drive from the taller model and Jourdan doesn't waste any time here jabbing in ferocious fashion and picking the blonde off with steady albeit single punches during the opening minute. Both girls duke it out in mid-distance but when Jourdan tries to switch downstairs, she gets caught with a wild hook on the jaw that drops her into a standstill. Martha turns from the hip to BLAST her with a big uppercut on the jaw and DUNN IS HURT!!! Ugh! More one-punch change-up on display as the blonde rallies up the middle to snap the brunette's head back and drive her butt-in-ropes where Jourdan simply sinks on jelly knees. She bellows out in a classic earmuff but Martha isn't going to be denied here as she WHACKS her on the exposed ribcage several times and FORCES HER TO TAKE A KNEE!!! Good grief, what a turnaround! Jourdan shows inferior resistance compared to the American and she's fortunate enough to be saved by the bell even when she gets up at eight. She looks crippled here already as that Hunt midsection drive was too efficient for comfort and we're back to square one at half-distance with Denise Lewis ranting in the Team Europe corner again!
Martha enjoys the momentum now and buries Jourdan under a barrage of head shots but it's the midriff change-up that does the trick and catches the towering model off guard... Jourdan folds into spasms on the spot and even laser-eyed coach Lewis didn't see that last punch. Take a look at the replay later! It's a collective groan all around Paris-Bercy as DUNN HEADS FOR THE CANVAS!!! She ends up folded on her knees with head touching the boards and hugging that liver amid all the pain in the world! She tries to make a recovery for Team Europe's sake but even though she's up at seven and pleading her case, she's literally biting into her gumshield now and moonlights as boxing jelly beans. The ref takes a deep look in her eyes but there's nothing but pain there so the fight is STOPPED!!! Huh! The fate of the Cup will go into the Main Event after all! TKO6 Martha Hunt!!!
AFTER: This is a genuine upset if you look at the fighters' records but Martha really made her case in the early going that forced Jourdan behind the eight-ball. She looked to have it all under control again for a moment but a laser-quick liver shot broke her resilience. And most of the audience didn't even see that so everyone's glued to the big TV screens for the replay to confirm it was that exactly led to Dunn's demise. Ugh! The Europeans are stunned while Martha high-fives Fergie and Danielle Harris but it's still their Cup to win as the Main Event match-up favors the local team with Malika Menard already making some noise backstage. The showdown is very much on and there's no time for any US celebrations just yet even though Martha's boxing profile just enjoyed a huge confidence boost. We might get to hear more about that later but it's all about the team effort tonight!
